O’hare’s Beer Club April 2014 Box
Seasonal Alert – Summer
The “King Heffy” from Howe Sound Brewing in Squamish BC is not your traditional Hefeweizen. First off it is an Imperial Hefeweizen which means that it has a higher alcohol content than most Hefeweizens. Sitting at 7.7% alcohol it packs a punch but you do not see it coming. The beer pours an cloudy amber colour with a white head. The aroma consists of wheat, banana, clove and yeast. The flavour is of tons of banana, clove, vanilla, yeast, wheat and a mild hops bitterness with an IBU of 25. You either love this beer or you hate it there is not much middle ground for most. I sit on the love it side as this is one amazing Imperial Heffy!
Commercial Description: A refreshing, German-styled wheat beer with a distinctive banana and clove aroma, it is made with barley, wheat, hops, water and hefe yeast and named in recognition of the thousands of climbers who come from around the world to climb Squamish, BC’s walls, crags, cracks, slabs and boulders.
Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows: Chicken barbacoa
Food Pairing according to Brewery: This German-style wheat beer is a classic summer ale, and is commonly served with a wedge of lemon. This beer works well with pastas, mild cheeses, grilled vegetables and light chicken and pork dishes.
This was previously on my facebook blog but it was a one liner.
