From Squamish’s Howe Sound Brewing comes the “Diamond Head Oatmeal Stout”. Named after a prominent peak in Garibaldi Provincial Park that is visible from the town of Squamish the beer has lots to live up to. I was glad to find that both from the bottle and on tap at Howe Sound’s Brewpub it lived up to its namesake. The beer has the look of motor oil with the same opaque finish and has a brownish head. The scent consists of oats and roasted malts with a hint of chocolate. The beer has a dominant flavor of oats and roasted malts with a finish of chocolate and slight bitterness. This stout may be a little more bitter than some of the stouts I have had recently. The beer sits at 5% alcohol and an IBU of 25. All in all a great addition to an amazing lineup of beer.
