Beer Advent Calendar 2014
Updated review to recognize the name change of this beer.
From Red Racer Brewing (Central City Brewing) out of Surrey BC comes the “India Style Red Ale”. Seeing as I was going backpacking for two nights at the end of September I needed to find a good beer to accompany me. I decided to go with a really good bet in Red Racer Brewing! This beer pours a dark copper with a fluffy tan head. The scent of the beer is of citrus, grapefruit and pine with a fairly strong floral hops, earthy balanced with some sweet caramel malts. The flavour follows close to the scent but the malts take a bit of a step forward in the flavor with some hints of toffee behind the citrus, earthy and hops.
This is a nice ESB if not a bit hopier than normal for the style. With a name like an India Style Red Ale you would expect a decent hops bitterness and it comes through in spades. The beer comes in at an alcohol content of 5.6%.
Commercial Description: The use of pale malts and crystal malts from the United Kingdom lend to this beer’s flavour and hop profile. A healthy dose of hops from the Pacific Northwest balances the full malty body. This is our original take on the India Style Red Ale (formerly Red Racer ESB).
For the Mystery Gift Holiday Countdown Central City Brewers & Distillers had old ESB labels lying around so they used them instead of making up new labels in a rush. Don’t go hunting for their ESB in stores.
