Sour In The Rye – The Bruery

Limited Seasonal

From Placentia California’s The Bruery comes the “Sour In The Rye” a Sour Rye Ale aged in Oak Barrels.  The sour ale pours a cloudy orange colour with some sediment and a white head.  The aroma consists of vinegar, tart, some sweet fruit and some oak.  The flavour is of vinegar, tartness, sour, sweet fruits, oak and some mild rye malts.  The beer pours a strong 7.8% alcohol.  I have heard lots of great things about this brewery and now trying two different beer I can safely say they make amazing beer!

Commercial Description:  We brewed this ale with around 40% rye as a base malt and let our sour yeast and bacteria eat away at it in oak barrels for over a year creating a sour ale with a complex character of rye spice, oak and a subtle funk.

I almost grabbed a bottle today, but I had quite a number of 3F and Cantillon bottles in my basket already, so I backed down at the $25 price tag or whatever it was. I guess I better man up next time I’m there!

  3. Hey, I just saw this one today. And of course, it came highly recommended. But my satchels were full, so I said I’d be back. Its that good huh?
