O’hare’s Beer Club October 2013 Box
From Vancouver’s R&B Brewing comes the “Birra Fresca Cucumber Mint IPA” a weird and refreshing ale. This concoction pours a bright and sunny golden with an off white head. The aroma is of cucuber, mint and floral hops. The flavour consists of big cucumber up front with lots of mint and a good hops bitterness. The brew has an alcohol content of 6% with and IBU of 50. This may sound like a really bizarre combination of flavours and you would not be wrong at all but at the same time it is a really interesting mix and makes for a very refreshing sip.
Commercial Description: Birra Fresca Cucumber Mint IPA is named after agua fresca (“fresh water”), flavoured water and sugar drinks that are found throughout Mexico and other Central American and Caribbean countries. One popular version contains cucumber and mint, and according to the brewery, “the thought was that the cucumber mint IPA would be just as refreshing, if not more so.” Based on R&B’s Hoppelganger IPA, Birra Fresca is a 6% abv and 50 IBU IPA made using more than 200 organic cucumbers that were sourced locally along with the mint.
