From Kansas City Missouri’s Boulevard Brewing Co comes their “Saison – Brett 2013” part of their Smokestack Series a series of big bold high alcohol beers. The beer pours a light cloudy orange with a white head. The aroma consists of yeast, wheat, some pepper and a mild funk. The flavour is of brettanomyces funk, yeast, fruit, sweetness, pepper, rind and a small hint of hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 8.5% with an IBU of 38. This is a very tasty Saison Brett although it could use some aging to really bring out the funk.
Commercial Description: Saison-Brett, based on our very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to enhance the “Brett” character, if that’s what you’re after.
