Beer Advent Calendar 2013
From the other Portland located in the state of Main comes Peak Organic Brewing Company “Hop Noir Black India Pale Ale” known in the West as a Cascadian Dark Ale. The beer pours a deep black colour with some brown hues when held up to a light and has a brown head. The aroma is of roasty malts and some earthy hops. The flavour is of roasty malts, smoke, pine and hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 8.2% with an IBU of 98. I would not have guessed that the bitterness was as high as 98 but more like 60. This was a tasty black IPA and I would like to get more in the future.
Commercial Descripiton: Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.
Food Pairing as per brewery: Brie, grilled vegetables, lamb shank, pungent cheeses.
