From Aldergove’s Dead Frog Brewery comes their new “Commander Imperial Stout 2014”. This years edition of Commander has been altered from last years edition. This Russian Imperial Stout pours a deep opaque black colour with a chocolate brown head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, dark fruits and sweet molasses. The flavour is of roasted malts, molasses, anise, oak, semi sweet, with hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 10.5%. I am not sure which version I liked better but it’s a great beer none the less. This years edition is much more approachable than last year and that really was the plan for this years edition.
Commercial Description: This rich, complex stout features a deep, layered malt, profile enhanced by slightly sweet flavours of white oak, molasses and star anise, All of these flavours combine to create an elaborate Imperial Stout suitable for enjoying today and made for cellaring to be enjoyed down the road.
