IPA – Red Collar Brewing

From Red Collar Brewing in Kamloops in the Okanagan comes their “IPA” a beer in their classic series.  The beer pours a copper colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of caramel, earth, floral and herbal hops.  The flavour is of caramel and biscuit up front with some earthiness, sweetness, mild tropical hops notes and a mild bitterness.  There is no doubt this is an English IPA.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.25% with an IBU of 78.  I am surprised that the IBU is that high as it really does not come through in the flavour but more like an IBU of 40-50.  With that being said this beer has all the makings of a really good English IPA and would probably even be quite palatable to non IPA drinkers.

Commercial Description:  A traditional English style IPA using primarily Australian hops. Red Collar IPA is brewed with Kamloops water, Canadian malt, English ale yeast, and Galaxy and Ella hops. Unpasturized, unfiltered and naturally carbonated.

We were there Easter weekend while traveling up to the Shuswap area. Friendly, a chance to meet locals/family, great ambiance, wonderful beer and I loved the tasters! Could not beat the price of 25 cents each for tasters. Next trip up…a definite little spot to hit again!
