Fresh Hopped ESB – Ravens Brewing Company

From Ravens Brewing Company in Abbotsford comes their “Fresh Hopped ESB” a beer using hops grown in Abbotsford.  The beer pours a chestnut brown colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of caramel, toasted malts, fruit, floral hops and some sweetness.  The flavour is of earth, bitterness, hop oils, resin, mild fruits and caramel with come chocolate and coffee notes.  The beer comes in at 5.75% alcohol with an IBU of 50.  Quite dark for an ESB but the fresh hops add an interesting characteristic to this beer.

Commercial Description:  The Skinny.  With a renaissance of hop growers in the Fraser Valley, we are extremely excited to be able to feature fresh Cascade and Centennial hops in our ESB.  The bright green flavours of fresh hops are balanced by the heavier malt backbone with provides a deep auburn colour and rich flavour.  Taking influence from the changing colours of the seasons, it’s an excellent addition to cool autumn nights.  As part of our “Farm to Glass Series” this beer utilizes ingredients grown and harvested right here in Abbotsford.

Food pairing as per brewery:  Stilton, Porchetta, Rainy Days
