Squamish, BC’s Howe Sound Brewing has put out their Mexican Chiapas Cold Pressed Coffee Ale, an amber ale conditioned with cold pressed coffee from the Chiapas region of Mexico.
The beer is an orange-brown, dark enough to be opaque and a bit cloudy from the coffee. The head is fairly thin and quickly dissipates with large bubbles. The head is a light caramel colour.
There are several bold aromas right off the bat, coffee and caramel come out right up front.
The flavours start out with both coffee bitterness and hop bitterness. There is a small amount of sweetness to balance the bitter and full coffee flavours start coming out almost immediately. There are some sweet malt flavours of caramel and nuts subtly running under the coffee. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, meaning this would be easy to drink several pints of.
