Midnight Run Dark Lager – Red Truck Beer

From Red Truck Beer in Vancouver comes their “Midnight Run Dark Lager”.  The beer pours a chestnut brown with a light brown head.  The aroma consists of roasted malts, nuts and sweetness.  The flavour is of roasted malts, nuts, earth, caramel, hint of dark fruit and a mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.9%.  This is a fairly basic dark lager but that is exactly what you would want from it anyways.  Easy drinking and great for the winter months.

Commercial Description:  Our Midnight Run Dark Lager was first made introduced as a limited edition beer in a 650ml bottle back in 2015. After all of raving reviews from consumers, and with the seasons changing, we just had to bring it back for everyone to take for a test drive.

Black Pils – Hearthstone Brewery

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Black Pils”.  The beer pours a deep brown colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of roasted malts, coffee and some floral hops.  The flavour is of roasted malts, coffee, earth and some pilsner malts with herbal hops and some bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 23.  This is hardly a pilsner in the regular sense but that makes it far more interesting to me.

Commercial Description:  Our dark twist on a classic Czech style Pilsner.  A dark black beer with an authentic Saaz forward hop character creating a nice bite and dark malts add subtle roasty notes.

Thanks to Hearthstone Brewery for this photograph.

48 Dark Lager – Vancouver Island Brewing

From Victoria BC’s Vancouver Island Brewing comes their “48 Dark Lager” one of their brew re-branded beers.  The beer pours a very deep brown with a brown head.  The aroma consists of lightly roasted malts, coffee, mild fruit and floral hops.  The flavour is of caramel, roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, nutty, citrus, earth and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.8%.  This is an enjoyable black lager with just enough flavour to keep you coming back for more.

Commercial Desciption:  84 Dark Lager is a malty, authentic Bavarian dark lager crafted with a blend of caramel, chocolate and roasted wheat malts.  Aromas and flavours of bread crusts, coffee and chocolate accentuate this malt-forward beer, while light hop bitterness and flavour are present.  This full-bodied beer’s finish is surprising:  it ends smooth and clean, typical or the cold fermented lager.

Schwarzbier Dark Lager – Big Ridge Brewing

From Big Ridge Brewing in Surrey comes their “Schwarzbier Dark Lager”.  The beer pours a deep brown colour with a light brown head.  The aroma consists of toasty caramel, sweetness and some fruitiness.  The flavour is of toasted malts, caramel, hint of chocolate, coffee, earth and a mild bitterness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 22.  Ashley has done a great job on this beer and if you find yourself in Surrey stop by for a glass as you will not regret it.
