From Steamworks Commercial Brewery in Burnaby BC comes their seasonal “Pumpkin Ale”. The beer pours a copper colour with a white head. The aroma consists of malts, pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, spices and an overall sweetness. The flavour is of malts, cinnamon, nutmeg, spices, pumpkin, sweetness and a mild hops bitterness in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 16. It keeps surprising me that I like pumpkin ales as I do not like pumpkin pie at all. Like many other pumpkin beers I find this to be quite tasty!

From Elyslian Brewing out of Oregon comes “The Great Pumpkin” a pumpkin ale. The beer pours a slightly cloudy copper colour with an off white head. The aroma is composed of malts and pumpkin. The flavour is of pumpkin, malts, cinnamon, spices, nutmeg and citrus. The alcohol content is 8.1% but does not show up in the flavour and an IBU of 20. Just another tasty pumpkin beer!

Brewed with pale, Munich, Cara-Hell, Cara-Vienne, Cara-Munich and Crisp 45° L Crystal malts. Roasted pumpkin seeds in the mash, and extra pumpkin added in the mash, kettle and fermenter. Spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and allspice. Formerly at 9.5%.
Mill Street Brewing in Toronto presented us with a pumpkin ale named “Nightmare on Mill Street”. This scary beer poured a deep copper colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of sweet cinnamon and nutmeg. The flavour consisted of pumpkin, sweet cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and malts. The alcohol content is 5%. This is a nice addition to the pumpkin beer lineup.
From Kelowna BC’s Tree Brewing Company comes their Fall seasonal “Jumpin Jack Pumpkin Ale”. This beer pours a deep brownish amber colour with a tan head. The smell of the beer is of pumpkin, sweet spices, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. The flavour has all the same notes as the aroma with the addition of licorice and malts. This is a nice addition to the pumpkin ale lineup. This years batch of beer has an alcohol content of 7% alcohol up from the 6.4% in previous batches.
From Elysian Brewing out of Seattle Washington comes their “Night Owl Pumpkin Ale” tried on tap in Richomond at O’Hare’s. The beer pours an amber colour with an off white head. The aroma of this beer is of earthy pumpkin (not sweet more veg), malts with nutmeg and clove. The flavour of this brew is of earthy pumpkin with cinnamon, nutmeg, bready malts, clove and ginger. The beer comes in at an alcohol content of 6.1%.
Beer notes “Brewed with 150 lbs. of pumpkin in each batch. Made with Pale, Munich and Crystal malts green and roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin in the mash, boil and fermenter. Bittered with Horizon hops. Spiced in conditioning with nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger and allspice.”
