Pumkin Ale – Swans Hotel and Brewpub

Fall Seasonal

From Swans Buckerfields Brewery in Victoria BC comes their “Pumpkin Ale”.   This beer has the aroma of Cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin and malts.  The flavour of this beer is similar with Cinnamon, nutmeg, spices, malts and a light hops bitterness to finish it all off.  This beer comes in at an alcohol content of 5%.  Not the best beer I have had of swans but a very good pumpkin beer still.

Pumpkin Ale – Granville Island Brewing

Fall Seasonal

From Granville Island Brewing out of Vancouver comes their “Pumpkin Ale”.  The beer pours a dark copper colour with an off white head.  The aroma of the beer is of earthy pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices.  The taste is of earthy pumpkin up front with some hops bitterness complimented by cinnamon, nutmeg and other spices.  The beer comes in at an alcohol content of 6%.  This is not the best beer produced by Granville Island Brewing but I would not hesitate to pick up a new bottle next year!

Crooked Tooth Pumpkin Ale – Phillips Brewing

Fall Seasonal

From Phillips Brewing out of Victoria BC comes the “Crooked Tooth Pumpkin Ale”.  This seems to be the year of the pumpkin beer for sure with more and more coming out every day!  The beer pours an orange colour with a big white head.  The smell is dominated with pumpking with undertones of spices and malts.  The taste is of sweet pumpkin with lots of spices and nutmeg.  The beer has an alcohol content of 5%.  This beer has a very nice flavor but I would not rate it at the top of my pumpkin beer list.

Pumpkin Head (Pumpkin Brown Ale) – Fernie Brewing

From Fernie BC’s Fernie Brewing comes the “Pumpkin Head (Pumpkin Brown Ale)”.  This is yet another in the growing number of pumpkin beer being produced in BC.  This beer pours a deep amber/brown with an beige head.  The aroma of this beer is huge with pumpkin, spices, nutmeg and sweet roasted malts.  The flavor is just about as huge with pumpkin, spices including nutmeg and cinnamon, clove, all spice, coriander, sweet roasted malts and a slight hopyness.  The beer has an alcohol content of 5% with an IBU of 13. I had a falling out with pumpkin beers as I tried every single one a few years ago and overdid it.  Luckily this one reminded me why I liked them and will make put pumpkin beer back on the radar.
