Bumper Shine Winter Warmer – Torque Brewing

From Torque Brewing in Winnipeg Manitoba comes their “Bumper Shine Winter Warmer”.  The beer pours a very deep ruby red colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, cinnamon and sweetness.  The flavour is of cinnamon, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, earth, butterscotch and a sweet finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.5% with an IBU of 45.  I like this style of beer as its got lots of flavour and the alcohol warms you up.  This is a good representation of the style.

Winter Warmer 2016 Vintage – Garrison Brewing

From Halifax Nova Scotia’s Garrison Brewing comes their “Winter Warmer” 2016 Vintage.  The beer pours a ruby red colour colour with a beige head.  The aroma consists of cinnamon, clove, brown sugar, fruits, berry and some hops.  The flavour is of strawberry, dark fruits, cinnamon, clove, brown sugar, caramel, earth, bitterness and a dry finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 20.  This one is not all that warming at 7% but I am quite enjoying the flavour anyways.  Its been a while since I have had a beer from Garrison Brewing and I just don’t know why its been this long.

Commercial Description: This strong dark amber beer is brewed with spices evocative of the holiday season. It’s warming character makes it a great accompaniment on cold winter nights.  Complex and inviting aromatics of strawberry jam, cinnamon, clove, brown sugar and molasses. Rich caramel avors dominate and persist through a warming nish; starts sweet with a touch of dryness followed by a snooth aftertaste of caramel and clove.

Food pairings as per brewery:  A great compliment to rich and meaty dishes.

Graham Cracker Ale (2016) – Hearthstone Brewery

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Graham Cracker Ale”.  This is a new version of the beer that has launched in December 2016.  The beer pours a chestnut brown with an off white head.  The aroma consists of graham crackers, honey, vanilla with an overall sweetness and some fruit.  The flavour is of caramel, graham crackers, vanilla, fruit and some mild bitterness and earthiness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 30.  This beer has tons of flavour and is backed with a good body.  With the reduction of alcohol from the original 8% the malts have become much more forward in the flavour.

Commercial Description:  In 1829, Presbyterian minister Sylvester Graham invented the graham cracker in an attempt at staving off an epidemic that was sweeping the nation – masturbation. As a tribute to Reverend Graham, we decided to concoct a graham cracker brew with 50kg of graham crackers in each batch, resulting in notes of honey, vanilla and all around graham cracker goodness. So instead of knocking one out this evening, how about knocking one back with Hearthstone! Cheers!

Here is a link to my old review of the original version.

Graham Cracker Ale – Hearthstone Brewery

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Graham Cracker Ale”.  The beer pours a deep chestnut colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of roasted malts, vanilla, honey and some mild chocolate.  The flavour is of roasted malts, earth, honey, vanilla, burnt coffee, spices, graham crackers and some bitterness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 8% with an IBU of 30.  Although not quite what I remember for the original batch of this beer it was quite refreshing especially for a winter brew.  This year they used less graham crackers and more of the ingredients to make graham crackers.
