Crosswind Pale Ale – Lake of Bays Brewing (December 16, 2013)

Beer Advent Calendar 2013

From Lake of Bays Brewing Company out of Baysville, Ontario comes their “Crosswind Pale Ale”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of apple juice with some mild malts.  The flavour is of apple juice, citrus, grainy malts and some minor hops.  The alcohol content is 5%.  This is a pretty good beer and very refreshing although I was surprise how much like a hopped apple juice it tasted like.

Commercial Description: Pours with a brilliant golden colour and a nice white foam in which the bubbles are generous. The aromatics are primarily citrus and range between lemon and grapefruit. There are also hints of caramel, toasted grains and a touch of fresh apple. The flavours include toasted bread and a slight note of toffee and stewed apple. The mouth feel is quite dry and the finish is quick with some mild, lingering bitterness.

Trappistes Rochefort 6 – Brasserie de Rochefort

Located in the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Remy is the Brasserie de Rochefort brewery near Rochefort in Belgian.  This is a Trapist monastery and as such makes Trapist beer such as this “Trappistes Rochefort 6″.  This authentic Trapist beer pours a deep coppery brown with a tan head.  There was some noticeable sediment present in the beer although it did not affect the flavor of the beer.  The aroma of this ale was of apples, fruit and yeast.  The flavor of the beer was of apple juice, fruit, yeast and a touch of alcohol.  The beer is quite sweet but nothing like a berry lambic or anything.  The beer comes in at an alcohol content of 7.5%.  This is another great beer made by the Monks at Brasserie de Rochefort!

Satan Gold – De Block Brouwerij

From Peizegem, Belgium comes the “Satan Gold” brewed by  De Block Brouwerij.  The Satan Gold pours a light yellow colour with a white head.  The brew had the aroma of both yeast and apple juice.  The beers flavor mimics the smell and is quite sweet with a tiny undertone of hops.  The beer finishes highly carbonated and quite sweet.  The beer has a light alcohol flavor in stark contrast to the %8 alcohol content.  This is a Belgium style beer through and through so only try it if you enjoy that style beer.
