Deadpale Ale – BRB Co

From BRB Co (Be Right Back Brewing) in Richmond comes their “Deadpale Ale” a beer that unofficially ties into the movie Deadpool showing across the street. The beer pours a mildy cloudy golden to copper colour with a white head. The aroma consists of a really bready and grainy malt presence with some good citrus notes in the finish and some floral hops although mild. The flavour is of bready and grainy malts, caramel and citrus with some very mild hops bitterness. This is definitely an English Pale Ale and not a West Coast Pale. The alcohol content comes in at a very sessionable 4.3% with an IBU of 26. While this beer is not going to knock you socks off like deadpool would or kick you in the face with hops it is a tasty beer and I am sure Deadpool would support drinking a few in a sitting.

Casks for Kwantlen Charity Fundraiser – (BRB Co) Richmond

BRB Co (Be Right Back Brewing) located in Richmond recently held a cask event to raise money for a Scholarship fund for the Kwantlen Polytechnic University brewing program.  The event was on January 23, 2016 and ran from Noon to 6:00pm.  The event was sponsored by Just Here for the Beer and TSN1040 radio.BRBKPU-01

Like always I was there early and took a few photos of the setup of the event and watched Just Here for the Beer record their show.

A good number of local breweries had their beer pouring at this event including Be Right Back Brewing, Big Rock Urban, Red Truck, Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers, Howe Sound, Four Winds, Steamworks, Parallel 49, Old Abbey Ales, Steel & Oak and a beer on tap from the KPU Brewing Students.

For the first annual event the event went off quite well.  There were some great beers on offer which does not surprise me as the students of KPU could be the future head brewers at the breweries that came out.  It was not too busy at any one time at the event but there were waves of new people arriving all the time.  I met a few students of the program and they seem to really be enjoying learning abut the brewing process and the prospects of working in the industry.

All proceeds from this event benifited teh Kwanteln Plytechnic Brewing Scholarship Fund.

BRB Co (Be Right Back Brewing) – Richmond (Closed)

(Be Right Back Brewing has been closed due to unpaid lease. It is unknown if they will reopen.)

Big River Brewing in Richmond is no more as it has rebranded as Be Right Back Brewing or for short BRB Co.

I was lucky enough to get an invite to the relaunch party on September 30th, 2015.  Not only has the name of the brewery changed but there have been lots of renovations to the space as well.  The hardwood flooring is gone as well as the decorations like boats hanging from the ceiling.  The section of the pub closest to the bright tanks might even become the house to more fermentors and canning.

If you have ever been to the brewery and pub you will know that the brew house and fermentors are housed in a different location than the bright tank farm.  Starting with the brewery itself it is located beside the pub seating behind a glass door and wall.  The brew house was built years ago by Specific mechanical in Victoria BC.  To say this brewery is shoe horned into its space would be and understatement.  The grain mill and grain storage is located on top of a cooler meaning all grain is hand loaded onto a second level.

Over on the far side of the bar backing on the bowling alley you will find the room housing the bright tanks.  Again this room is closed off by a glass door and glass wall so you can see what is going on behind the scenes.  The beer in these tanks is directly tapped into the bar so there is no changing kegs.

Either for your first time at this location or your first time since the rebrand it might be time to check out BRB Co!  They are brewing some good beer and looking forward to having you in to try it.
