Kentucky Bastard Russian Imperial Stout – Nickel Brook

From Burlington, Ontario’s Nickel Brook brewed by Better Bitters Brewing Co. comes their “Kentucky Bastard” a bourbon barrel aged version of the Bolshevik Bastard Russian Imperial Stout.  The beer pours an opaque black colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of chocolate, toffee, coffee, dark fruits, earth, bourbon, vanilla, oak and sweetness.  The flavour is of chocolate, coffee, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, dark fruits, brown sugar, oak, earth, ash, bitterness and some alcohol.  The alcohol content comes in at 14.5% with an IBU of 70.  Not that I have had a ton of beers from Nickel Brook but I have to say that this beer is by far their best beer and I would love to have it again soon!

Commercial Description:  We kicked it up a notch with our Bolshevik Bastard Imperial Stout, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. The rich chocolate, coffee and dark fruit flavours from our Imperial Stout are married together with the vanilla, oak and warming alcohol from bourbon barrels. Together as one,the result is an incredible blend of aroma and taste. Drink it today, or cellar it to enjoy later as it matures. Cheers!

Enjoy By 02.14.15 IPA – Stone Brewing

From Stone Brewing out of Escondido California comes their “Enjoy By 02.14.15 IPA” a beer that is brewed to be enjoyed within 5 weeks of the bottling date (bottled on Jan 9, 2015.  This is to ensure that the beer is enjoyed very fresh.  The beer pours a orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruits, peaches, caramel malts and some floral hops.  The flavour is of tropical fruits, melons, pineapple, sweetness, caramel malts and a good bitterness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 9.4%.  I had a real romantic moment with this beer on the bottle date on Valentines Day and I was sad that I made her acquaintance on the last day of its fresh date.

Commercial Description:  You have in your hands a devastatingly desirable double IPA. While freshness is a key component of many beers – especially big, citrusy, floral IPAs – we’ve taken it further, a lot further, in this IPA. You see, we specifically brewed it NOT to last. We’ve not only gone to extensive lengths to ensure that you’re getting this beer in your hands within an extraordinarily short window, we made sure that the Enjoy By date isn’t randomly etched in tiny text somewhere on the label, to be overlooked by all but the most attentive of retailers and consumers. Instead, we’ve sent a clear message with the name of the beer itself that there is no better time than right now to enjoy this IPA.

They even have a website for this beer.

BOLSHEVIK BASTARD RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT – Nickel Brook (December 14, 2013)

Beer Advent Calendar 2013

From Burlington, Ontario’s Nickel Brook brewed by Better Bitters Brewing Co. comes their “BOLSHEVIK BASTARD RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT”.  This beer pours an opaque black colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of roasted coffee, roasted malts, chocolate and an overall sweetness.  The flavour is of roasted malts, burnt coffee, chocolate, dark fruits and a mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.5%.  This is my new favorite beer from the craft beer advent calendar.

Commercial Description: The newest Nickel Brook creation was brewed for those of you who aren’t afraid of big and bold beer! Made with a blend of roasted barley, chocolate and amber malts, this Imperial Stout gives rise many deep flavours of rich, roasty chocolate and dark fruit. To counterbalance the sweetness, The Bolshevik Bastard is aggressively hopped at 70 IBUs to give rise to this remarkably smooth Imperial Stout that you won’t believe is 8.5% ABV!  Proudly craft brewed, with no additives or preservatives. Maple Porter – Nickel Brook (Dec 1 2013)

Beer Advent Calendar 2013

From Burlington, Ontario’s Nickel Brook brewed by Better Bitters Brewing Co. comes their “Maple Poter”.  The porter pours a opaque black colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of semi sweet maple.  The flavour is of roasted malts, maple, chocolate and some hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 27.  I am not big on maple but it does work pretty well in the beer.

We then infuse pure, dark Canadian maple syrup into the brewing process, so the maple essence becomes integrated during fermentation.
