Belgian Golden Strong – Moody Ales

From Moody Ales out of Port Moody comes their “Belgian Golden Strong”.  The beer pours a orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of bubblegum, banana, fruity notes and a sweetness in the finish.  The flavour is of bubblegum, banana, caramel, candi sugar, mild bitterness, spices and Belgian yeast. The alcohol content comes in at 8.5% with an IBU of 28.  This is a tasty Belgian style beer and a worthy addition to the Moody Ales small batch series.

Commercial Description:  The light body and soft, sweet malt character blend with the fruity aromas for a delicious and dangerous easy drinking beer.  Highly attenuated Belgian ale with fruity esters and low spicy alcohol and hop notes.

Red Fife Hefeweizen – Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub

From Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub in Victoria BC comes the “Red Fife Hefeweizen”.  The beer pours a hazy golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of banana, bubblegum, clove, yeast and wheat.  The flavour is of banana, wheat, citrus, yeast and bubblegum.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.5% with an IBU of 20.  I am not sure what the Red Fife Wheat adds to this beer but it is an enjoyable one.

Commercial Description:  Red Fife Wheat, Canada’s first contribution to Slow Food International’s Arc of Taste, incorporated into this classic Bavarian style symbolizes brewing in the new world, blending old world techniques with new world opportunities.

Mango Bango Hefeweizen – Hathi Brewing

From Hathi Brewing currently brewing out of Ravens Brewing in Abbotsford comes their “Mango Bango Hefeweizen”.  The beer pours a cloudy mango juice colour with an orange head.  The aroma consists of mango, banana, bubble gum, yeast and sweetness.  The flavour is of mango, banana, bubblegum, yeast, wheat and a hint of some spices.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.1%.  I don’t usually go out of my way for a Hefeweizen but this one has a ton to offer with the addition of the mangos.  I will be looking for more of this in the future.

Commercial Description:  Our mango Bango Hefeweizen is a Traditional Wheat Beer producing flavours of Banana and Clove with an Indian twist of Alphonso mangos, native to Western India.  This particular type of mango is known for being rich, sweet and sensuous to the palate.  Grab a few bottles and share them with friends and family.

Barrel Aged Sparkling Wit – Dogwood Brewing

From Dogwood Brewing in South Vancouver comes their brand new “Barrel Aged Sparkling Wit” a beer aged in Pinot Noir barrels.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of wheat, yeast, lemon, wine, vanilla and some mild oak.  The flavour is of Wine but more of a white wine than a Pinot Noir, vanilla, lemon, citrus, yeast, bubblegum, mild oak flavour and a sweet although dry finish with some tannins.  The alcohol content comes in at 6%.  This is one of the most complex beers that I have enjoyed from Dogwood Brewing.  Head over to the brewery to give it a try as this will only be available at the tasting room and select taprooms around town.

Commercial Description:  This Organic Belgian Wit was brewed with Coriander and Black pepper, then aged for 3 months in Organic French White Oak Pinot Noir Barrels. Delicate spicy esters create the perfect base for layer after layer of Flavour that Evolves as your glass warms, creating a thoughtfully refreshing drinking experience. Bright Lemon plays counterpoint to the deeper flavour of vanilla and oak imparted by the young barrels which; like a good pinot noir, pairs well with all types of food. Made with all Organic Local B.C ingredients, this creamy Wit is beautifully rounded in its complexity and finishes Dry with a hint of tannin. We’re very proud of this limited release and sincerely hope you enjoy.
