Punch Bowl North West IPA – Russell Brewing


From Surrey’s Russell Brewing comes their “Punch Bowl North West IPA”.  The beer pours a amber colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, tropical fruits, caramel and hops.  The flavour is of caramel, citrusy lemon, tropical fruits, earth, resin and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 65.  This is a very well made North West IPA and well worth giving a shot if you are looking for a 6 pack to have in your fridge.

Commercial Description:  Subtle NW honey malt characters are combined with Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops to create tropical, fruity flavours such as stone fruit, berries and melon. India Pale Ale was a beer created to make the trip from England to India, Punch was a fruit drink introduced to England from India. So as tribute to full flavoured beer and to party drinks that can be spiked, may we present the Punch Bowl!

Treeline Lager – Coast Mountain Brewing


From Coast Mountain Brewing in Whistler comes their “Treeline Lager”.  The beer pours a straw yellow with a white head.  The aroma consists of grain, biscuit, citrus and floral hops.  The flavour is of grain, biscuit, bread, citrusy lemon and some mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.5% with an IBU of 20.  I am not a huge lager fan but this one has everything you would want from a crisp clean easy drinking lager.

Cause & Effect Blonde – Nickel Brook


From Burlington, Ontario’s Nickel Brook brewed by Better Bitters Brewing Co. comes their “Cause & Effect Blonde”.  The aroma consists of a cloudy golden colour with a white head.  The beer pours a grainy, bready,  fruity and floral hops.  The flavour is of grain, citrusy lemon, some earth, resin, grassy hops and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.7% with an IBU of 19.

BC Backyard Lager – Old Yale Brewing


From Old Yale Brewing out of Chilliwack comes their brand new “BC Backyard Lager” a beer made from 100% British Columbia ingredients.  The beer pours a golden yellow colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, grassy hops, grain and rye malts.  The flavour is of citrusy lemon, melon, herbal hops, grainy and rye malts and a decent resin and bitterness in the finish for the style.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 25.  While this is not my style of beer there is good hit of rye malts and hops that make for a tasty lager even for me!

R&D Cherry Wit – Bad Tattoo Brewing


From Penticton’s Bad Tattoo Brewing comes their “R&D Cherry Wit”.  The beer pours a copper pink colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of mild cherry, citrus, wheat and some grains.  The flavour is of wheat, yeast, citrusy lemon, cherry, exceedingly mild tartness and a grassy finish.  The alcohol content comes in at very sessionable 4.5%.  This beer is an interesting twist on the wit style.
