From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “You Gonna Eat That?” a Black Forest Cake stout. The beer pours a deep brown colour with a brown head. The aroma consists of chocolate, mild roast, cherry and some sweetness. The flavour is of cherries, chocolate, mild roast, earth, creamy with a mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 8.2%. I personally really like the pastry stout and this one was defiantly enjoyable.
From Sooke Brewing Company in Sooke on Vancouver Island comes their “Foreign Export Stout”. The beer pours a black opaque colour with a brown head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, earth, toffee and chocolate. The flavour is of chocolate, creaminess, coffee, toffee, ash, bitterness and some resin with little to no alcohol. From Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby BC comes their latest release”Nitro Mango Milkshake IPA”. The beer poured a off white cascading nitro pour that settled into a deep cloudy orange colour. The aroma consisted of mango, tropical fruits with very floral hops and some sweetness. The flavour is of mango, tropical fruits, grapefruit peel, lactose sweetness, resin and mild bitterness. This was basically as creamy as any nitro stout you have ever had. The alcohol content comes in at 6.7% with an IBU of 45. While this was a weekly one off and they only made two kegs and it may be gone it needed to be shared just how creative and tasty this beer was! I hope they decide to make more of this beer soon. This beer was discussed in Pacific Beer Chats IPA episode.
From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “Con Leche Horchata Style Milk Stout”. The beer pours an opaque black colour with a brown head. The aroma consists of vanilla, cold brew coffee, chocolate, creamy milk and cinnamon. The flavour is of tons of coffee, vanilla, roasted malts, chocolate, cream and cinnamon. The alcohol content comes in at 7.5% with an IBU of 18. Once again this beer is a massive step away from the German style of beers they usually make but change is always a good thing and this stuff is very different! Since when was mixing coffee and chocolate a bad thing especially when it has all the caffeine? Make sure to pick up a 4 pack tall cans or two.
Commercial Description: A Horchata style Milk Stout brewed with a variety of roasted malts and coffee from Bows & Arrows coffee roasters. It pours very dark black with a thick creamy mocha head. The oats and lactose provide a silky rich mouthfeel, which is balanced with strong aromatics of coffee. The beer is conditioned on cinnamon and vanilla beans, which provide a unique spice character that pairs perfectly with the strong coffee and chocolate flavours of the stout.
