Lucubrator Dopplebock – Occidental Brewing Co

O’hare’s Beer Club April 2014 Box

From Portland Oregon’s Occidental Brewing Company comes their “Lucubrator Dopplebock”.  The beer pours a dark amber/brown colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of dark fruits, brown sugar and bourbon.  The flavour is of dark fruits, brown sugar, spice, vanilla, bourbon, very roasty malts and some mild hops to finish it off.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.8% with an IBU of 20.  This is a well crafted example of the style and I enjoyed it from the first sip to the last.

Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows: smoked sausage.

Brooklyn Silver Anniversary Lager – Brooklyn Brewery

From Brooklyn New York’s Brooklyn Brewing comes the “Brooklyn Silver Anniversary Lager” a dopplebock brewed for their 25th Anniversary.  The beer pours a deep copper colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of sweet malts, floral hops and a nutty finish.  The flavour is of sweet malts, fruit, hops bitterness, pepper, spices and a very mild alcohol finish.  The alcohol content of this beer is 8.6% and an IBU of 45.  This is one of the nicest Lagers you will taste and is worth the coin you will spend to purchase a bottle!

Commercial Description:  The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988.  Silver Anniversary Lager will be available on draft until May, but throughout 2013 a bottle-conditioned version of the beer will feature unique labels from four great Brooklyn artists: Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford. Captivator DoppleBock – Tree Brewing

Limited Edition Beer

From Kelowna BC comes the “Captivator DoppleBock” brewed by Tree Brewing.  The beer pours a deep reddish-brown with an off white head.  The scent is of toffee, malts, coffee, and chocolate.  The taste follows the same profile with malts, toffee, coffee, chocolate and a bit of alcohol flavoring.    This is a very nice Bock beer and I hope to find more bottles in the future!
