Double Infinity (Galaxy) – Superflux Beer Company


From Superflux Beer Company brewing out of Strathcona Beer Company in Vancouver comes their “Double Infinity (Galaxy)” a Double IPA.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruits, stone fruit and citrus with a herbal and floral finish.  The flavour is of herbal hops with citrus rind, tropical fruits, melons, stone fruit, resin and bitterness with a hint of alcohol.  The alcohol content comes in at 8%.  Superflux Beer Company is a big player in the local North East IPA style and this one is killing it just like their other brews.  Pick this up if you can find it.

Subversion Imperial IPA – Category 12 Brewing


From Victoria’s Category 12 Brewing in Victoria comes their “Subversion Imperial IPA” newly available in 4 pack cans.  The beer pours a copper colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruits, citrus, floral hops, grains and some alcohol heat.  The flavour is of tropical fruits, berries, citrus, citrus rind, bitterness with maybe a hint of caramel.  There is alcohol present in the flavour but at 8.2% that I expected.  The beer also has an IBU of 85.  Category 12 Brewing is celebrated locally for good reason as they do not make bad beer.  This beer is fantastic and a good example of what we can do on the Northern portion of the West Coast.

Double IPA – Black Bridge Brewery


From Black Bridge Brewery in Swift Current Saskatchewan comes their “Double IPA”.  The brew pours a cloudy orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of floral hops as well as citrusy orange fruity notes, tropical fruit and some sweetness.  The flavour is of citrus, orange, tropical fruit, caramel, resin, pine, sweetness, hops bitterness and alcohol.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.5%.  Now we are talking!  This is a really well crafted Double IPA and would fit in anywhere on the West Coast!

Commercial Description:  This Double IPA will knock your socks off at 8.5%. The addition of Mosaic hops gives a healthy dose of tropical fruit in the aroma and a juicy finish that lingers long on your tongue.

Beach Week Double IPA –  Twin Sails Brewing


From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “Beach Week Double IPA”.  The beer pours a perfect NE Style IPA murky orange with a white head. The aroma consists of tropical fruit, orange and floral hops with an overall juice finish. The flavour is of tropical fruit, pineapple,mango, fruit candies, some citrus rind and a good bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.2%. This was anouther awesome release from Twin Sails.

Commercial Description:  Hopped with mostly El Dorado hops with a small amount of Amarillo and Mosaic playing a supporting role, this beer is a straight tropicana juice bomb. If a pineapple, a mango and a beer had a baby, this is the hop chowdery spawn they would create. Two massive dry hops give this beer a huge hop forward aroma and flavour with big notes of pineapple, mango and citrus.

Twenty Pounder Double IPA – Driftwood Brewing


From Driftwood Brewing out of Victoria BC comes their “Twenty Pounder Double IPA”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head that leaves lacing on the glass.  The aroma consists of tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, caramel and some floral hops.  The flavour is of mango, pineapple, tropical fruits, sweetness, resin, pine, caramel and hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 9%.  With tons of fruit flavours and hops bitterness this is a really tasty Double IPA and well worth finding a bottle or three of it.

Commercial Description:  An agent of delivery for hops! As always, we believe in balance, so the double-shwack of hops is supported by a dense-but-clean malt base. Huge fruit in the form of mango, passionfruit, guava, citrus and pine makes this a hop head’s delight.
