From Drammen, Norway’s Haandbryggeriet comes their “Sundland Kreosot” a smoked black IPA or Cascadian Dark Ale locally here. This brew pours a deep almost opaque black with a huge tan head. The aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate and lots of smoke. The flavour is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, hops bitterness and smoke. This bottle had an alcohol content of 7.7% which seems to have gone up from previous batches. I only enjoyed half of this beer really. I found the IPA side of it to be quite pleasing but I could not get past the smoke flavouring. Now I am not a fan of smoked beer so this is being swayed by that. If you like smoke in your beer you should pick this beer up!

From Drammen, Norway’s Haandbryggeriet comes their “Costa Rica Coffee Porter”. This porter pours a dark black with a very small tan head. The aroma is of sweet cream, coffee, roaster malts and some mild smoke notes. The flavour consists of sweet cream, smoke, roasted coffee, roasted malts and some mild hops bitterness. The alcohol content of this beer is 6.5% and the IBU is 30. This is a very tasty porter with just the right amount of smoke to enhance the flavour without overdoing it!
