From Bomber Brewing in East Vancouver comes their “Bourbon Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout”. The beer pours an opaque black with a brown head. The aroma consists of bourbon, oak, chocolate, toffee and vanilla with a sweet finish. The flavour is of bourbon, oak, tannins, earth, roasted malts, burnt coffee, ash, chocolate, vanilla, tofffee, caramel and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 9.5%. While I prefer my Russian Imperial Stouts sweet this one is very well executed and well worth picking up multiple bottles.

From Bomber Brewing in Vancouver in partnership with Cultch for Theatre Replacement’s East Van Panto: Snow White & the Seven Dwarves comes the “Snow White IPA”. The beer pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. The aroma consist of floral hops, wheat, yeast, coriander, grapefruit and some other citrusy notes. The flavour is of coriander, citrus rind, grapefruit, pith, orange, lemon, yeast, wheat, with some dankness and pretty big hit of hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 50. This is a really well crafted White IPA and a nice change up for what I have been finding on the market!
Commercial Description: This year’s brew features an international cast: Canadian barley and wheat, Belgian yeast, and hops from both Germany and the United States. From Strange Fellows Brewing Company in East Vancouver comes their “Golden Enigma Smash ISA”. This Single Malt Single Hop beer was made with Enigma hops and Golden Promise malts. The beer pours a straw yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of citrus, maybe a hint of tropical fruits and some floral hops. The flavour is of citrus, mild tropical fruit, citrus rind, resin, biscuit and some low bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 45. Single malt single hop beers can sometimes fall into the bland territory but this one was a nice refreshing one and I will be having more in the future.
Commercial Description: This Single Malt and Single Hop SMaSH Pale Ale was brewed with the big Aussi hop Enigma and the Scottish malt variety Golden Promise. Balanced between a sweet malt backbone and assertive resinous, fruity hop character this Session Pale Ale reveals in an uncomplicated way the nature of these unique ingredient varieties.

From Red Truck Beer in Vancouver comes their “Midnight Run Dark Lager”. The beer pours a chestnut brown with a light brown head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, nuts and sweetness. The flavour is of roasted malts, nuts, earth, caramel, hint of dark fruit and a mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 4.9%. This is a fairly basic dark lager but that is exactly what you would want from it anyways. Easy drinking and great for the winter months.

From Bomber Brewing in East Vancouver in collaboration other members of the with BC Craft Brewers Guild comes their “BC Craft Brewers Guild Oktoberfest” a Marzen lager well placed for this time of year. The beer pours a deep amber colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of toffee, caramel, fruity and a bit of sweetness in the finish. The flavour is of caramel, toffee, nuts, sweetness and some minor hops. The alcohol content comes in at 6.2% with an IBU of 25. This beer delivers on exactly what it should. Its got the malts and the crispness of the Marzen or Oktoberfest style beer. This can is the launch of the new BC Independent Owned BC Beer seal.
Commercial Description: OKTOBERFEST BC BEER COLLABORATION: Early in September, BC Craft Brewers Guild members gathered at Bomber to create a celebratory brew in honour of the 6th anniversary of BC Craft Beer Month, an annual campaign to promote and raise awareness of independently owned and operated BC craft breweries.
