From Main Street Brewing in Vancouver comes their “Barrel Aged American Style Barley Wine” a Winter 2017 Vintage. The beer pours a very murky brown colour with a white head. The aroma consists of dark fruits, toffee, resin, sweetness and a floral finish. The flavour is of roasted malts, caramel, toffee, chocolate, dark fruits, resin, earth, oak and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 10.5% with an IBU of 80. This Barely Wine seemed to be a bit of a hybrid style as the bitterness was to low to be an American Barley Wine. It was not really what I was expecting but I did quite enjoy it none the less.

Soothsayer Milkshake IPA – Parallel 49 Brewing
From East Vancouver’s Parallel 49 Brewing comes their latest beer “Soothsayer Milkshake IPA”. The beer pours a hazy orange colour with a white head and good lacing. The aroma consists of citrus, juicy hops, lactose, floral and just an overall sweetness. The flavour is of lactose, orange, orange rind with a hint of both resin and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5%. I have to say that this is a nice Milkshake IPA as it is sweet but not overly so like some of them. One of the most true to style NE IPA’s that Parallel 49 Brewing has made to date to boot.
Funtimes Northern German Pilsner – Doan’s Craft Brewing Company (Gladstone Brewing)
From Doan’s Craft Brewing Company in Vancouver in collaboration with Gladstone Brewing comes their “Funtimes Northern German Pilsner”. The beer pours a straw yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of grain, citrus with some floral hops in the finish. The flavour is of grain, citrus, sweetness, with some mild resin, herbal notes and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 4.7% with an IBU of 32. While I do not get excited for lagers this is an exceptionally produced lager and will be very refreshing to anyone that is looking for a good clean lager!
Murder Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter – Powell Brewery
From Powell Brewery in East Vancouver comes their “Murder” a Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter aged for 24 months in American oak. This was a single barrel release. The beer pours a very deep brown with a brown head. The aroma consists of vanilla, bourbon, oak, milk chocolate, caramel, creamy and sweetness. The flavour is of vanilla, caramel, chocolate, bourbon, oak, mild roasted malts, dark fruits, sweetness but with a dry finish and some alcohol. The alcohol content comes in at 11.2%. I am not sure if it needed 24 months but it sure didn’t hurt this one at all. I really enjoyed this porter.
Commercial Description: Murder is a special version of their Dive Bomb porter that has been aged for 24 months in American oak bourbon barrels. The end result came out at a massive 11.2%. Murder will be available at the brewery only on Wednesday December 13, 2017 and there will only be 28 cases available.
Mixed Greens IPA – Doan’s Craft Brewing Company
From Doan’s Craft Brewing Company in East Vancouver comes their “Mixed Greens IPA” part of their 1830 House Series. The beer pours a golden colour with a white head. The aroma consists of dank hops, citrus, fruity hops and a floral finish. The flavour is of super dank hops, citrus, tropical fruits, citrus rind, resinous as heck, medium bitterness and pine. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 60. Evan Doan explained this as a NE IPA that is filtered. While it is juicy it is more of a NW IPA with some juice but this is a damn good IPA and I can’t wait for it to hit the market.
