From Moody Ales out of Port Moody comes their “Vienna Amber Lager”. The beer pours a deep amber colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of caramel malts, mild fruit and floral hops. The flavour is of caramel, grainy malts, mild fruit, some resin and a very mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 19. If you enjoy a good lager then you should pick this one up.
Commercial Description: Robyn, who created our Vienna lager recipe, likes to pair this beer with bratwurst. Sho, another Moody Ales brewer, prefers it with carnitas. Makes sense—this style, originally developed in Vienna in the 1840s, lost popularity in Europe over the nineteenth century but thrived in Mexico with Austrian emigrant brewers. So, as you enjoy our malt-forward yet clean amber lager, remember that from Austria to Mexico to Canada, pork and beer unite us all.
From Fernie BC’s Fernie Brewing comes the “Old Barn Saison”. The beer pours a cloudy amber colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of yeast, bubblegum, spices and sweetness. The flavour is of yeast, pepper, rye spice, grainy malts, citrus rind, bubblegum and banana. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 30 – 35. This is an interesting take on a saison and I quite enjoyed it.
Commercial Description: A very aromatic flavourful, golden brew, with spicy, peppery and fruity notes. The classic Strisselspelt and New Zealand Pacific Jade hops make for a very engaging hop profile for this beer. This is our take on the classic, refreshing and unassuming, yet delicious Belgian beer. Surprisingly light, but packs a punch of flavour to enjoy. Variety of malts, including Munich, Cara Vienna, Rye and Pilsner malts. Hops include Warrior, Strisselspalt and Pacific Jade. Peppercorns and orange peel are also added.
Food pairing as per the brewery: This farmhouse brew, goes well with farmhouse foods. Think French provincial cuisine, strong cheese and flavoursome salads.
From Mission BC’s Mission Springs Brewing comes their “Big Chief Cream Ale”. The beer pours an amber colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of grainy malts, citrus and a sweet finish. The flavour is of bready grainy malts, big citrus notes, with mild notes of earth, herbal and bitterness in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 19. This beer is not going to knock your socks off as it is a fairly basic beer. But there is nothing wrong with that it just wont challenge your palate.
From Aldergove’s Dead Frog Brewery comes their “Weeping Reaper Blood Orange Helles Bock” a flavoured lager. The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head. The aroma consists of bready and grainy malts, citrusy orange and floral hops. The flavour is of orange, citrus, citrus rind, grainy and bready malts, earth and hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 26. While a typical Helles Lager is not a style that I would usually drink this Blood Orange Helles Bock is quite tasty.

From Penticton BC’s Tin Whistle Brewing comes their “Peach Cream Ale”. The beer pours a cloudy straw colour with a white head. The aroma consists of peaches and grainy malts with some grassy hops. The flavour is of peaches, grainy and biscuit malts, herbal hops. The alcohol content comes in at 5%. This beer sits on the sweeter side but from the peaches so it’s a balanced sweetness and an enjoyable beer.
