FRESH HOP RED IPA – Stanley Park Brewing


From Stanley Park Brewing (Turning Point Brewing) in Delta comes their “FRESH HOP RED IPA” a part of their new Sampling Series in Bombers.  The beer pours a deep reddish colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of roasted malts, rye, caramel, grapefruit and floral hops.  The flavour is of roasted malts, rye, caramel, toffee, chocolate, earth, grapefruit, grapefruit rind, pine, pepper, herbal and bitterness.  The alcohol content  comes in at 6.4% with an IBU of 70.   This Red IPA has a similar roast malt characteristic of some Cascadian Dark Ale’s.  I quite enjoyed this one although it is definitely more roasty than most.  Stanley Park Brewing is now owned by Labbat.

Commercial Description:  A robust Fresh Hop Red IPA with Crystal Rye malts and heaps of fresh, locally-grown Cascade and Chinook hop cones direct from bines at B.C. Hop Co.’s picturesque hop fields in the heart of the Fraser Valley.

Mating Saison – Dogwood Brewing (Callister Brewing)


From Dogwood Brewing in collaboration with Callister Brewing comes their “Mating Saison”.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of rye spice, rye, grainy malts, fruity, yeast and floral hops.  The flavour is of rye, rye spice, grain, resin, grapefruit rind, earth, yeast, herbal and some bitterness.  This is a fairly dry beer.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.6% with an IBU of 20.  I am always a fan of a good collaboration beer and this one is no different.  If you like a good saison you should take a look for this one.

Commercial Description:  The perfect marriage between two breweries saw the birth of this refreshing Rye Saison. Brewed with organic Azacca hops, all organic malt and lots of tender love… this subtly spicy saison ends with a tropical fruit finish that’s patio perfect and sure to please. ’Tis the season stags and stagettes, so go get your rut on.

Blood Orange Sour – Steel Toad Brewpub


From Steel Toad Brewpub in Vancouver comes their “Blood Orange Sour” a Berliner Weisse.  The beer pours a cloudy dark pink with a whitish pink head.  The aroma consists of bloody oranges, mild tartness and maybe a hint of something herbal.  The flavour is of blood orange, stone fruit, grapefruit rind and tartness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 10.  This is really tasty and a nice sour for the summer coming up.  This sour wont kick your taste buds in the teeth which is nice as so many kettle sours are extremely sour.

Commercial Description:  This kettle soured wheat ale, (Berliner Weisse) has been blended with blood oranges after fermentation.  The resulting beer is extremely easy drinking, refreshing, and delicious.

 

Shiva White IPA – Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks


From Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks in Richmond comes the latest in their “Shiva White IPA”.  The beer pours a cloudy yellow with a white head.  The aroma consists of grapefruit, pineapple, lemon, wheat and floral hops.  The flavour is of grapefruit, grapefruit rind, pineapple, wheat, resin and lots of hops bitterness.  This beer has a very dry finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 64.  If you enjoy a good wheat beer crossed with an IPA this White IPA will be right up your ally.  I know that I quite enjoy this beer!

Commercial Description:  Shiva:  A light and refreshing White IPA that features grapefruit notes and hefty bittering to sastify your hop fix.  Featuring Citra, Amarillo, & Ekuanot Hops and a American-Belgo Yeast Blend.

Punch Bowl Grapefruit IPA – Russell Brewing


From Surrey’s Russell Brewing comes their “Punch Bowl Grapefruit IPA”.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of grapefruit, lemon, honey and floral hops.  The flavour is of grapefruit juice, grapefruit rind, lemon, honey, caramel and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 65.  This beer has almost hints of a radler with grapefruit juice added to the brew.  Even with the beer being a bit juicy it is a very refreshing IPA and I would bring pick it up again soon.
