Beer on the road – Road Trip to the Kootenays

Road trip to the Kootenays

For the last few years I have been dreaming of getting back out into the Kootenays as it has been around 20 years since the last time I was there.  With all of the breweries in the Kootenays and lots of other amazing places to visit like hot springs it was time.  My girlfriend and I packed up the car and hit the road on an epic adventure that ended up covering 2800km across the beautiful province that I live in, British Columbia.  We left late in the evening on Saturday September 20th and pulled back into our driveway on September 28th.  It is amazing how little of the province we actually explored on this awesome trip but we sure did explore a ton.

Along the road we were able to check out 7 breweries including Rossland Beer Company, The Heid Out Restaurant & Brewhouse, Fernie Brewing, Arrowhead Brewing, Mt Begbie Brewing, Nelson Brewing and Torchlight Brewing (Beacon Brewing).  We also spent a good chunk of time at The Lions Head Pub in Robson a great craft beer oriented tap house in the Middle of the Kootenys.  Our last night in Robson we attended the Taste Of Castlegar a food and drink event.  Over the next few weeks I will be writing about our adventures in the beautiful Kootenays region.  During the trip we camped (tented) all but one night as we wanted to stay at one of the Hot springs resorts but overall wanted to save some money.  I really recommend this to others as a night in a campsite can run between $17 to $35 if you pick the right spots.

Here are a few random shots from the trip that did not pertain to the breweries.

So I hope everyone enjoys reading about my trip and catching up on what is brewing in the Eastern portion of the Province.

Cheers!
