Ryujin Belgian Tripel with Plums – Lighthouse Brewing (Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks)

From Lighthouse Brewing in Victoria BC in Collaboration with Richmond’s Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks comes the “Ryujin Belgian Tripel with Plums”.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of plums, candi sugar, some spice with a sweet finish.  The flavour is of plums, candi sugar, bubble gum, sweetness but not cloying like many Tripels, some grain, spice from hops and some mild alcohol in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 8% with an IBU of 20.  With the addition of plums to this tripel it makes it taste different than the norm which is good as I usually find Tripels far too sweet and I usually avoid them.  I would suggest picking up a bottle or two of this one.

Commercial Description:  Our collaboration brew with Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks from Vancouver!  A Belgian Tripel Style beer, Ryujin pours golden with dark plum on the nose and palate along with classic banana and spicy clove flavours.

Free Dive IPA – Coppertail Brewing

From Coppertail Brewing in Tampa Florida comes their “Free Dive IPA”.  The beer pours a golden yellow colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, grapefruit, citrus rind, pine, floral hops and maybe a dank note or two.  The flavour is of grain, citrus, citrus rind, resin, pine, bitterness, earth, herbal hops and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at a good 5.9%.  This was a really nice India Pale Ale and a great introduction to this brewery.

Commercial Description:  Whether you’re diving for stone crabs under Tampa Bay’s Sunshine Skyway or just wishing you were, this beer’s got you covered. Expect huge hits of citrus and pine aromas layered over a bright malt backbone. Perfect for a day on the water.

That New Trapp – Hearthstone Brewery (Stillwater Artisanal)

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver in collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal out of Baltimore Maryland comes their “That New Trapp” a Funky Brett IPA labeled as a Hazy New England-Style Trappist Ale.  The beer pours a lightly cloudy orange with a white head.  The aroma consists of brett funk, stone fruit, tropical fruit and maybe a hint of floral hops.  The flavour is of brett funk, tropical fruit, stone fruit, lemon, some biscuit and mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 35.  Been a fan of Stillwater for some time and have been a big fan of Hearthstone Brewery since they opened and this beer is an amazing marriage of both breweries.  Great flavours really do combine with this brew to make a North East IPA even if it is not as murky as it should be for the style.

Commercial Description:  A funky brett IPA with an irresponsible amount of Citra, Mosaic & Amarillo hops fermented with a blend of reckless yeast strains, Brett B and Conan.  A collaboration beer from Hearthstone and Stillwater Artisanal.

Steel Toe Lager – Dead Frog Brewery

From Dead Frog Brewery in Aldergrove comes their “Steel Toe Lager”.  The beer pours a straw yellow colour with a white head.  The flavour is of citrusy lemon, grain, and grassy hops.  The flavour is of biscuit, grain, citrus, sweetness and a low bitterness and grassy hops.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 14.  While it is well known that I am not a big fan of the lager style this one delivers on exactly what it should with a crisp clean flavour and is worthy of your glass if you enjoy a good lager.

Commercial Description: A SMOOTH AND REFRESHING LAGER BREWED WITH PREMIUM INGREDIENTS, MADE FOR ENJOYING AFTER A HARD DAY’S WORK.

Infinity Mirror Brett IPA – Halcyon Barrel House

From Halcyon Barrel House in Vankleek Hill, Ontario part of the Beau’s All Natural Brewing family comes their “Infinity Mirror Brett IPA” the very first release from the brewery.  This is a brett fermented barrel aged beer that was then bottle conditioned.  The beer pours a cloudy orange with a white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruits, barnyard funk and some floral hops.  The flavour is of tropical fruits such as pineapple, citrus, citrus rind, brettanomyces funk, red wine, oak, earth and some bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.2% with an IBU of 10.  To say this beer was good is a massive understatement.  This is an amazing Brett IPA and I hope to have the chance to try more from the Halcyon Barrel House in the future!
