Jagged Face IPA – Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Company


From Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Company in Parksville on Vancouver Island comes their “Jagged Face IPA”.  The beer pours a orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of tropical fruit, melon, citrus and floral.  The flavour is of tropical fruit, citrus, melon, stonefruit, caramel, pine and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 7.2%.  Well my first taste of Mount Arrowsmith Brewing was a good one.  This is a very enjoyable IPA with lots of fruit flavours playing on the tongue.

Commercial Description:  Canadian pale & Munich malt complement select tropical hops including Centennial, Citra & Amarillo to create our flavourful version of a well balanced, but powerful IPA. Best enjoyed in a glass.

First Descent Northwest IPA – Backroads Brewing Co


From Backroads Brewing Co the newest brewery in Nelson BC comes their “First Descent Northwest IPA”.  The beer pours an orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of lots of fruit including citrus, semi sweet notes and floral hops.  The flavour is of citrus, orange, mild tropical fruit, caramel, resin, pine and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.3% with an IBU of 53.  This is definitely a tasty IPA coming out of Nelson BC.  If you find yourself in the Kootenays make sure to check this brewery out.

 

Full Time IPA – Beau’s All Natural Brewing


From Beau’s All Natural Brewing in Vankleek Hill Ontario comes their “Full Time IPA”.  The beer pours an orange colour with a white head and floaties.  The aroma consists of citrus, grapefruit, pine, mild malts and floral hops.  The flavour is of herbal hops, citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, pith, pine, caramel and medium bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.7% with an IBU of 60.  Beau’s All Natural Brewing knows how to make a tasty beer and this one is no different.

Commercial Description:  Full Time I.P.A. pours hazy deep gold with a dense white foam. Aromas of citrus, tropical fruit and pine abound. The flavour mirrors the aroma impressions with pronounced juicy fruit. A balanced bitterness underpins the flavour. This medium bodied ale finishes dry with lingering hop and fruit notes.

Food pairing as per brewery:  Chipotle & mango salsa with spiced tortilla chips, BBQ beef burgers with caramelized onions and sharp cheddar, ginger-cookie-&-cream-cheese ice cream sandwich.

Jolly Hopper Imperial IPA – Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub


From Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub in Victoria BC comes the “Jolly Hopper Imperial IPA”.  The beer pours a deep amber with a tan head.  The aroma consists of caramel, fruity almost banana, lemon, floral hops and some sweetness.  The flavour is of caramel, toffee, fruity, citrus rind, resin, pith, hops bitterness and a grassy finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 8% with an IBU of 100.  The 100 IBU and the alcohol does not really come out in the flavour as bitterness but this is an interesting flavour anyways.   I would say this almost seems like and English IPA.

Commercial Description:  Ahoy matey!  While the Jolly Roger is flown to identify that pirates are about to attack, our Jolly Hopper signifies an imminent attack on your tastebuds.  Featuring a moutherload of experimental hops, this beauty is not for the faint of palate.  Surrender or walk the plank!

 

Yakima IPA – Microbrasserie Le Castor


From Microbrasserie Le Castor in Rigaud Quebec comes their “Yakima IPA”.  Thanks to Cee of Beer & Other Shhh Podcast for this beer!  The beer pours an orange colour with a white head. The flavour is of orange, citrus, tropical fruits, juicy and floral hops. The flavour is of herbal hops, resin, orange, tropical fruits, mild caramel and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 75.  This was a really enjoyable IPA and I am glad I got the chance to try it!

Commercial Description:  This beer is a celebration of the mighty West Coast hop, grown east of the Cascade mountains. Multiple varieties are used in this ale, at several different points in the brewing process. With emphasis on late hop & dry hop additions, we serve up juicy citrus flavours & aromas on a bed of pale malt.
