Subaquatic Domicile IPA – Hearthstone Brewery

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Subaquatic Domicile IPA”.  The latest IPA from Hearthstone pours an orange colour with a white head that leaves some lacing on the glass.  The aroma consists of pineapple, tropical fruit, sweetness and maybe a hint of malts.  The flavour is of and maybe a hint of earth.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an unspecified IBU.  This beer is a nice blend of North East IPA and North West IPA.  It still has the bitterness of the west coast but still has the juicy side of the hops.  I recommend finding some of this for yourself.

Commercial Description:  This Pineapple infused New England Style IPA is hazy, thick, creamy and magical.  Tropical fruit notes from Equanot, Idaho 7 & El Dorado hops are amplified by a healthy dose of Pineapple.  Join the haze craze and get it in ya!

Commercial Description:  “Hazy Daze North East IPA is packed full of as many hops as we could get in it. Brewing techniques, the use of malted oats, and a massive dry hop give this IPA big tangerine, grapefruit, nectarine, melon, guava, mango peel, sweet white grape must, and berry notes. This beer is completely focused on hop flavour and aroma and best enjoyed as fresh as possible!” – Simon Jongsma, head brewer.

Food pairing as per brewery:  The beer has a lot of flavour and aroma so should not be paired with anything too strong. Good complement to fruit dishes, light salads, and more delicate meats marinated with citrus and mild herb seasonings. It’s a perfect beer for summer sipping and al fresco dining.

West Coast IPA – Trading Post Brewing

From Trading Post Brewing in Langley comes their “West Coast IPA”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of floral hops, citrus, tropical fruit and pine.  The flavour is of herbal hops, resin, pine, tropical fruit, grapefruit, earth and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.3% with an IBU of 61.  I am glad to see more options from Trading Post being bottled.  This was a great West Coast India Pale Ale.

Commercial Description:   Crafted in the West Coast tradition, this Special IPA is brewed with Superior Pilsner malt, 6 different hop varieties and 3 dry hop additions. Flavours of tropical fruit, pomelo and grapefruit evolve into pine and resin bitterness on the finish. Balanced by a medium malt body, this is West Coast IPA at its finest.

Honest Paul IPA – Brewsters Brewing Company

From Brewsters Brewing Company out of Calgary, Alberta comes their “Honest Paul IPA”.  The beer pours a copper orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of malts, floral hops, orange and citrus.  The flavour is of caramel, citrus, tropical fruit, herbal and medium hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 70.  Event with an IBU of 70 I would call this more of an English IPA.  You would not go wrong having a six pack of this in your fridge for a rainy day.

Commercial Description: Pour a tall drink and tell some tall tales with Honest Paul IPA, a refreshing ale with a hoppy bite that will bring out your inner storyteller.

Brews Brothers (Vol 3) – Parallel 49 Brewing

Brews Brothers was born two years ago as a 12 case collaboration mixed pack.  The first two packs were collaborations within the province of British Columbia.  Volume One was a Blues inspired pack and year two was a Rock and Roll theme. This year things have changed as it is now a 4 bomber pack in Collaboration with American breweries.

This year the theme is Old School Rap and the entire West Coast of Canada and the USA has been involved.  It is almost like an Extended Cascadia colab.

This years Brews include from North to South:

49th State Brewing (Anchorage, AK) – Gettin’ It, a Northern Farmhouse Style Beer
Scuttlebutt Brewing Company (Everett, WA) – Baby Got Back, a Hoppy Hefeweizen
Gigantic Brewing Company (Portland, OR) – Blazing Arrow, a Tawny IPA
Green Flash Brewing (San Diego, CA) – What’s Golden, an “East Meets West” IPA

Gettin’ It, a Northern Farmhouse Style Beer

This creation of Parallel 49 Brewing and 49th State Brewing from Anchorage Alaska pours a slightly cloudy golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of yeast, lemon, candied pears and grain.  The flavour is of bready malts, grain, yeast, lemon, pear and grassy hops.  The alcohol content comes in at 7%.  This is more of a sweet saison than a farmhouse ale but that does not change the fact that it is a well made ale.

I have tried all three Brews Brothers collaboration boxes and reviewed two now.  This one was just as good as the others and well worth picking up in the liquor stores now!
