From Fernie BC’s Fernie Brewing comes the “Barrel Aged Maple Porter”. This beer was aged for 12 months in Pinot Noir Barrels. The beer pours a very deep brown with a brown head. The aroma consists of red wine, chocolate, earth, roasted malts, caramel and maple. The flavour is of red wine, chocolate, caramel, toffee, maple, roasted malts and ash. The alcohol content comes in at 6.4% with an IBU of 35. I was really happy to find this beer at a local liquor store in Vancouver as it is really complex and tasty.

From Burlington, Ontario’s Nickel Brook brewed by Better Bitters Brewing Co. comes their “Maple Poter”. The porter pours a opaque black colour with a brown head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of semi sweet maple. The flavour is of roasted malts, maple, chocolate and some hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 27. I am not big on maple but it does work pretty well in the beer.
