From Cerveza De Lost Muertos part of Cerveceria Mexicana in Tecate Mexico comes their “Death Rides A Pale Horse Amber Ale”. The beer pours a deep blonde colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of grain, some citrus and sweetness. The flavour is of bready grains, citrus, grassy hops, mild bitterness and a sweet finish. The alcohol content comes in at 5.6% with an IBU of 18. This was a pretty good Amber Ale and I thank my friend that picked it up for me in Mexico. There seems to be some confusion on the ownership of this brewery.

Obscura (American Brown Ale) – Cervecería Cucapá (December 3, 2013)
Beer Advent Calendar 2013
Coming from one of the First Micro Breweries out of Mexico comes the “Obscura (American Brown Ale)”. The brewery is located in Mexicali, Mexico. The beer pours a ruby/brown colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, nuts and an overall sweetness. The flavour is of roasted malts, caramel, chocolate, sweetness, hops bitterness and a slightly odd cider like finish. The alcohol content comes in at 4.8%. I found this a pretty enjoyable brew and I was happy to have the opportunity to try it in this advent calendar.
Commercial Description: Gold Medal at the “2007 World Beer Championship, 91pts” Deep chestnut brown color with a medium brown head. Sweet toffee, roasted nuts, and brown sugar aromas follows through to a smooth, dryish medium body with great roundness, purity, and depth. Finishes with a rich dark roasted nut, baker’s chocolate, and earthy hop fade. Very nice!
Beer Advent Calendar 2013
I am sure everyone remembers their chocolate advent calendars as children. Now there is an advent calendar just for us craft beer nerds! There are 24 different bottles in the package all from North America. 10 beer are from Canada, 13 from the USA and one from Mexico. The beer run from 4.5% and head all the way up to 10% alcohol! To me this mean that they did not play it safe with the beer this year and catered to the beer nerd! I have an idea what one of the beer might be but overall there is no information on any of the beer or breweries as it is supposed to be a surprise every day. From December 1st to 24th you will open the days slot and find out what the beer is and then throw it in the fridge. When you get home from work It will be time to enjoy! All the brews were brought together by Craft Beer Imports from Calgary Alberta. No the only hard part will be to wait until December to drink it all! The box comes in at a price around $130 and will sell out in the next few days!
Full Sized Photos can be found here!
This will be a landing spot for all the reviews I do of this beer in December.
Runaway IPA – Cervecería Cucapá
O’hare’s Beer Club February 2013 Box
Coming from one of the First Micro Breweries out of Mexico comes the “Runaway IPA”. The brewery is located in Mexicali, Mexico. This IPA pours a light golden colour with a white head. The aroma consists of floral hops, citrus fruits and tropical fruits. The flavour is of floral hops, bitterness, pine, cirtus and tropical fruits. The alcohol content comes in at 7.5% alcohol and the IBU is 75. I quite enjoyed this IPA and look forward to trying more from this brewery and some more Mexican micro brew in general. Not everything coming from there has to be super light boring lager.
Commercial Description: Brewed with our indigenous two row Mexican malt and generous amounts of hops, this IPA is a citric bomb! Using four different hop varieties we created four different citric flavors that complement each other. Tangerine, Lemon, Grapefruit and Lime blend in to create a full flavor hopped up brew. The color is golden and the body is relatively full for a beer this light in color. This is an artifact of our full flavored base malt in perfect balance with the bitterness of the hops at 75 IBU.
Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows: Poultry or shellfish curry
