From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Wyld Raspberry Berliner Weisse”. The beer pours a reddish pink colour with a small white head. The aroma is of Raspberry, sweetness but not to much else. The flavour is of raspberry, tartness with some undertones of sweetness with a mild malt note. The alcohol content comes in at 3.2% with an IBU of 00. You can not go wrong with a nice session sour ale and this one will not disappoint.
Commercial Description: We brew this the way they did back in the day, using a 100% wild lactobacillus bacteria to sour the beer, then we bring it back into the kettle and add 200lbs of real, whole local raspberries resulting in a pink, tart and refreshing summer beer.

The aroma consists of mild tartness, tropical fruits and lychee. The flavour is of tartness, tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus, passion fruit, sweetness and a mild malt backbone. The alcohol content comes in at 4% with an IBU of 0. This is definitely a tasty session sour ale. hope you can find some before its all gone.
Commercial Description: Kettle soured, then fermented with our hose ale yeast. Next we dry hop the hell out of this beer with Equanot and Idaho 7 hops, both accentuating the beautiful bouquet of passion fruit and citrus.
From Steamworks Brewing in Collaboration with Dageraad Brewing both located in Burnaby comes their “East of East Van” Saison. The beer was brewed at Steamworks Brewing and bottled with Dageraad Brewings hand bottler. It was then transferred to Dageraad Brewing to be bottle conditioned at Dageraad. The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head. The aroma consists of pepper, lime and Belgian yeast. The flavour is of pepper, lime, citrus peel, Belgian yeast and some malts in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 25. This was a really enjoyable collaboration with lots of complexity.
Commercial Description: Steamworks has been busy collaborating with their fellow Burnaby based brewers at Dageraad Brewing. Aptly named the “East of East Van Bottle Conditioned Saison”, these two river city brewers have crafted a beer worth crossing Boundary Ave for. This exotic saison features black lime and white pepper, which gives it a spicy aroma, crisp flavor and dry finish. Steamworks brewmaster Julia Hanlon expands upon the release: “We wanted to celebrate our brewery’s Burnaby roots with our friends at Dageraad. The addition of black limes make for a really unique release and it’s our first Bottle Conditioned beer at Steamworks, who better to team up with, than Dageraad, who are experts at the art of bottle conditioning!”.
From Collective Arts Brewing in Hamilton Ontario comes their “Collective Project Gose”. The beer pours a light orange colour with an off white head. The aroma is of orange, lemon and other citrus fruits, coriander and salt. The flavour is of salt, lemon, orange, coriander with mild wheat malts and a mild tartness. The alcohol content comes in at 5.2% with an IBU of 27. I am happy that the Gose style has come back as it is a great summer beer with lots of flavour.
Commercial Description: Our Gose is an unfiltered wheat beer made with malted wheat. This creates a unique cloudy yellow colour and provides a refreshing crispness and twang. Our Gose has a low hop bitterness and features coriander and Himalayan sea salt, adding hints of complementary dryness, spice and a touch of sharpness to the beer.
From Main Street Brewing in Vancouver comes their “Red Back Ale” an American Amber ale. The beer pours a very deep red colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of fruit, malts and sweetness. The flavour is of fruit, caramel, sweetness, earth and some malts and bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 60. This beer is a tasty example or a red ale or an amber ale. Lots of flavour and some good hops bitterness.
Commercial Description: Our take on the classic American red ale delivers a bite on the pallet, along with southern tropical fruit aromas from being dry hopped with Australian Topaz, Ella and Galaxy hops. At 7% ABV and 60 IBU’s it’s a well balanced red ale that is easy to get ensnared in.
