Pear Milkshake IPA – Bridge Brewing Company

Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver has jumped back on the bandwagon of the Milkshake IPA with “Pear Milkshake IPA”.  The beer pours an amber orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of pear, cardamom, ginger, some mild malts and floral hops.  The flavour is of pear, citrus, ginger, cardamom, lactose, vanilla, herbal hops with a very mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 45.  While pear is not my favourite flavour this one does a good job of accenting the Milkshake IPA with the Pear flavours.

Commercial Description:   This milkshake IPA is bursting with pear and spice aromas, along with hints of vanilla.  Cardamom and vanilla compliment the earthy fruit tones of the pear, while the lactose  and oats add a touch of sweetness along with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.  Sweet and aromatic, this juicy IPA is unfiltered and without clarifying agents, pouring a hazy pale yellow.

The Fuzz Milkshake IPA – Bridge Brewing Company

Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver has jumped back on the bandwagon of the Milkshake IPA with “The Fuzz Milkshake IPA”.  The beer pours a very cloudy murky deep orange colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of peach, citrus, malts and floral hops.  The flavour is of peach, mango, citrus, lactose sweetness, caramel and bitterness.  This has a really creamy mouthfeel to it.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 45.  This is probably the most try to style we have seen locally in BC so far with it being just so murky and cloudy!  The first few sips it was a bit sweet for me by I really warmed up to it an enjoyed it even more when I cracked my bottle.

Shake Your Fruity Milkshake India Pale Ale – R&B Brewing

From Vancouver BC’s R&B Brewing comes the “Shake Your Fruity Milkshake India Pale Ale” the newest beer in their Mount Pleasant Series of beers.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of tons of fruit including orange, pineapple and berries with lactose.  The flavour is of lactose, orange, pineapple, tropical fruits, berries, citrus rind, mild resin, earth and some bitterness.  This beer has a ton of body from all of the oats used.  The alcohol content comes in at 7.3% with an IBU of 38.  The Milkshake IPA isn’t for everyone but I am a total convert.  Keep these fruit bombs coming with the nice sweet finish.

Commercial Description:  What is a Milkshake IPA?  It’s not just a clever name — these are hoppy beers, brewed with oats and lactose sugar in order to produce a thick, milky, sweet, and often fruity brew. To the beer world, this brew style resembles a classic milkshake.  Brewed with oats and apple puree for a soft and full body. Primary flavours are of juicy orange and pineapple.

Nitro Mango Milkshake IPA – Steamworks Brewing

From Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby BC comes their latest release”Nitro Mango Milkshake IPA”.  The beer poured a off white cascading nitro pour that settled into a deep cloudy orange colour.  The aroma consisted of mango, tropical fruits with very floral hops and some sweetness.  The flavour is of mango, tropical fruits, grapefruit peel, lactose sweetness, resin and mild bitterness.  This was basically as creamy as any nitro stout you have ever had.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.7% with an IBU of 45.  While this was a weekly one off and they only made two kegs and it may be gone it needed to be shared just how creative and tasty this beer was!  I hope they decide to make more of this beer soon.  This beer was discussed in Pacific Beer Chats IPA episode.
