From Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver comes their “Barrel Aged Brett Saison”. The beer poured an amber colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of oak, brettanomyces, red wine and tropical fruit. The flavour was of red wine, cherry, tropical fruit, tannin’s, brettanomyces funk, oak and some earth in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 18. I love a good sasion brett and this one ranks up there.
Commercial Description: A blend of seven barrels, this Brett Saison is fermented with French Saison, Farmhouse and Belgian yeasts. Aging in red wine barrels with Brettanomyces Lambicus and Brettanomyces Bruxellensis for over a year adds pineapple and cherry aromatics, along with a touch of earthy brett quality. The wine barrels contribute raspberry and cherry notes along with a dry oaky finish, making for a flavourful and complex brett beer.
North Vancouver has a new brewery once again. This time it is Beere Brewing located a short walk from Lonsdale Quay.
Its not a huge space for sure but the brewery is shoehorned into the space perfectly. The tasting room is located on the left side of the building. Wood bar tops and tables give a great feeling in the space. When I was there they had 6 beer on tap with a Double IPA on the way soon. I was able to try all 7 beer and I have to say that it is a really solid opening lineup. The beer may not be perfect but it is definitely enjoyable already and that is not always the case. With the big garage doors the space was very bright on this sunny day. The photos were not perfect due to just how bright it was.
The brewery itself is located on the right hand side of the building behind the Garage door with the Fermenters located along the back wall behind the bar and behind the stairwell in the center of the building that leads to the business upstairs. The brewery has a 15 HL brewhouse with 6-30HL if I remember correctly. They also have 2 bright tanks. On the right hand side you also find the keg washer and kegs. There is also a small cooler located right behind the central stair.
I really recommend checking out Beere Brewing. The beer is tasty and the staff is friendly.
From Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver comes their “Santa’s Sac Golden Strong Ale”. The beer pours a golden colour with a white head. The aroma consist of bubblegum, Belgian yeast, citrus and some spices. The flavour is of bubblegum, yeast, candi sugar, sweetness, fruit with some peppery spice. The alcohol content comes in at 10% with an IBU of 30. This brew drinks much like a Belgian Tripel with a strong sweetness. If you are big on that style then make some to pick this bottle up.
From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver in collaboration with Stillwater Artisanal out of Baltimore Maryland comes their “That New Trapp” a Funky Brett IPA labeled as a Hazy New England-Style Trappist Ale. The beer pours a lightly cloudy orange with a white head. The aroma consists of brett funk, stone fruit, tropical fruit and maybe a hint of floral hops. The flavour is of brett funk, tropical fruit, stone fruit, lemon, some biscuit and mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 35. Been a fan of Stillwater for some time and have been a big fan of Hearthstone Brewery since they opened and this beer is an amazing marriage of both breweries. Great flavours really do combine with this brew to make a North East IPA even if it is not as murky as it should be for the style.
Commercial Description: A funky brett IPA with an irresponsible amount of Citra, Mosaic & Amarillo hops fermented with a blend of reckless yeast strains, Brett B and Conan. A collaboration beer from Hearthstone and Stillwater Artisanal.
Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver has jumped back on the bandwagon of the Milkshake IPA with “Pear Milkshake IPA”. The beer pours an amber orange colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of pear, cardamom, ginger, some mild malts and floral hops. The flavour is of pear, citrus, ginger, cardamom, lactose, vanilla, herbal hops with a very mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 45. While pear is not my favourite flavour this one does a good job of accenting the Milkshake IPA with the Pear flavours.
Commercial Description: This milkshake IPA is bursting with pear and spice aromas, along with hints of vanilla. Cardamom and vanilla compliment the earthy fruit tones of the pear, while the lactose and oats add a touch of sweetness along with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Sweet and aromatic, this juicy IPA is unfiltered and without clarifying agents, pouring a hazy pale yellow.
