From Ipswich Massachusetts Clown Shoes Beer (contract brewed currently by Mercury Brewing Company) comes their limited release the “Space Cake Double IPA”. The IPA pours a mildly cloudy copper colour with a creamy white head. The aroma consists of sweet caramel, malts, tropical fruits and floral hops. The flavour is of hops bitterness, sweet caramel, lots of malts, tropical fruits, sweet citrus and some alcohol. The alcohol content comes in at 9% with lots of bitterness. This double IPA is sweeter than I usually go for but it is very tasty and I would drink more if it was possible! It’s pretty hard to get in a Province if not Country where it isn’t distributed too.
Commercial Description: Why are Miracle Mike and his dog, Bionic, being chased by many evil laser beam shooting cupcakes and two giant layer cake mother ships? Because we’re straight lunatic fools? Well, maybe, but with a few brains cells remaining we managed to craft Space Cake double IPA, utilizing citrusy Mosaic hops and an immaculate West Coast style malt backbone. Dude… Chill out. Enjoy some Space Cake.
From Barrie Ontario’s Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery comes their “BNL Imperial Chocolate Stout” a collaboration with the Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. This is beer 1 in the Treble Clef Series by Flying Monkeys. This stout pours an opaque black colour with a chocolate brown head. The aroma consists heavily of chocolate and roasted malts. The flavour is full of milk chocolate with roasted malts, sweetness, cream, mild bitterness and some mild alcohol. The alcohol content of the beer comes in at 10%. This is an amazing chocolate stout and well worth the collaboration with Barenaked Ladies.
Commercial Description: If I had 2 million Ecuadorian Cocoa Nibs… I would brew you an Imperial Chocolate Stout. Brewing with BNL demanded a rare treat – organic Ecuadorian Cocoa Nibs – to create a rich, friendly Imperial Chocolate Stout as sweet and quirky as the band’s music. We lovingly agreed aged this beer on a bed of luscious raw cocoa nibs creating a black velvety brew so fudge-y it makes you want to lick the inside of your glass. Opaque as chocolate cake, this roasty brew pours topped with a whipped mocha froth. The creamy dark cocoa flavors gently warm with a steady 10% ABV. No bitterness to this stout, just a chocolate boldness the, like a happy memory or a perfect song, keeps on giving. And like great music, this bottle is meant to be shared with special friends and family.

The Lager pours a light yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of malts, citrus that is fairly understated. The flavour is of malts, citrus and some mild hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at a slightly low 4.8%. This is a great tasting lager that is light and tasty for a craft beer but full of flavour if you are used to Macro Lager crap.
