From Arizona Wilderness Brewing in Gilbert Arizona comes their “Peanut Brittle Ale”. The beer pours an orange brown colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of peanut, lots of nuts, caramel and some mild roast. The flavour is of peanut butter, creamy nuts, caramel, toffee, vanilla and sweetness. The alcohol content comes in at 7.4% with an IBU of 20. There is no doubt in my mind that this beer tastes like peanut brittle. I am really happy I got a can of this from the Hoppy Craftsmen Podcast in trade.
Commercial Description: So yeah, we’ll admit it, we are some momma’s boys around this brewery. Not long ago, Patrick’s mother (“Momma Ware”) brought in some homemade peanut brittle. We went on a backpack trip and the crunchy, caramely, peanut butter goodness was the “best thing we’ve had in our lives” – or so it seemed with the cold and fatigue. It was a challenge to ourselves to recreate the delightful brittle. We used a combo of malts, lactose sugar, and dried peanut butter to nail down that color and flavor.
From Aldergove’s Dead Frog Brewery comes their new “Nutty Uncle Peanut Butter Stout” 2016 edition. The beer pours a deep brown colour with a brown head and some sediment. The aroma consists of peanut butter, mild chocolate, toffee and some sweetness. The flavour is of peanut butter, roasted malts, chocolate, earth, lactose and some mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.1% with an IBU of 24. If you enjoy a peanut butter and chocolate treat then you will love this beer and even if you don’t (and I don’t) I still really enjoyed this one!
Commercial Description: A CREAMY MILK STOUT BREWED WITH 8 CHOICE MALTS, ROASTED COCOA BEANS, AND PEANUT BUTTER. FLAVOURS OF CHOCOLATE AND COFFEE MAKE WAY FOR SMOOTH HINTS OF PEANUT BUTTER AND A SLIGHTLY SWEET FINISH.
Food pairing as per brewery: DARK CHOCOLATE, PEANUT BUTTER CUPS, SALTED CARAMEL
From DuClaw Brewing out of Baltimore Maryland comes their “Sweet Baby Jesus!” a chocolate peanut butter porter. The beer pours a deep black colour with a brown head. The aroma consists of peanuts, chocolate, caramel and a creamy finish. The flavour is of roasted malts, peanut butter, chocolate, caramel, earth and burnt coffee. The beer comes in at 6.2% alcohol with an IBU of 33. I do not like peanut butter cups so I was a bit trepidatious about this beer but it was unwarranted as this was awesome.
Commercial Description: First brewed in 2011, this Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.2% abv. Sweet Baby Jesus finishes smooth, dry, and roasty with lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter so savory, you will exclaim its name!
