Pear Milkshake IPA – Bridge Brewing Company

Bridge Brewing Company in North Vancouver has jumped back on the bandwagon of the Milkshake IPA with “Pear Milkshake IPA”.  The beer pours an amber orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of pear, cardamom, ginger, some mild malts and floral hops.  The flavour is of pear, citrus, ginger, cardamom, lactose, vanilla, herbal hops with a very mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 45.  While pear is not my favourite flavour this one does a good job of accenting the Milkshake IPA with the Pear flavours.

Commercial Description:   This milkshake IPA is bursting with pear and spice aromas, along with hints of vanilla.  Cardamom and vanilla compliment the earthy fruit tones of the pear, while the lactose  and oats add a touch of sweetness along with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel.  Sweet and aromatic, this juicy IPA is unfiltered and without clarifying agents, pouring a hazy pale yellow.

Entropy Series No 2 – Dageraad Brewing

From Dageraad Brewing in Burnaby BC comes their “Entropy Series No 2” the second of their barrel released beers.  The beer pours a very deep amber colour with a very active off white head.  The aroma consists of candy sugar, pear, oak and some mild brett.  The flavour is of resin, tannins, oak, pear, tropical fruit, candy sugar, pepper, herbal hops and some mild alcohol.  The brett character of this beer will build over time but it is pretty darn subdued right now.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.8%.  This is tasty fresh but if you got two bottles then you should really hold onto the second bottle and let the brett build!

Commercial Description:  Amber Ale aged in a pear brandy barrel and bottle conditioned with brettanomyces.

Wild Saison with Pear – Luppolo Brewing

From Luppolo Brewing in East Vancouver comes their “Wild Saison with Pear”.  The beer pours a cloudy yellow colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of pear, citrus, citrus rind, yeast, wheat and some sweetness.  The flavour is of citrus, citrus rind, pear, wheat, yeast, spices with a mild funk in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.5%.  This may not be a hugely complex beer like some wild ales but it was a very well executed while approachable saison.

Peared Up Saison Collaboration – Central City Brewers & Distillers (Great Lakes Brewery)

From Central City Brewers & Distillers in Surrey in collaboration with Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto Ontario comes their “Peared Up Saison”.  The saison pours a straw yellow colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of pear, banana and more fruit, yeast, wheat and spices.  The flavour is of pear, apples, citrus, banana, yeast, wheat and some spices.  The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 25.  This is not a big bold saison but it is a really well executed beer with a great mix of flavours.

Commercial Description:  The Peared Up Saison is a single hopped Saison brewed with Jarrylo Hops and real pear juice. The Jarrylo hops bring out a natural banana, pear and citrus spice flavour in this light and sessionable ale. The natural hop flavour is augmented with pear juice in the brew for a fruit-infused flavour experience.
