From two breweries that never make IPA’s in Dageraad Brewing and Steel & Oak Brewing out of Burnaby and New Westminster respectively comes their “Suburbs 2 IPA”. The beer pours a deep murky orange with a white head. The aroma consists of orange, tropical fruit, citrus pith, sweetness and floral hops. The flavour is of orange, tropical fruit, citrus rind, pith, resin and a low bitterness with a Belgian yeast spin. The alcohol content comes in at 7.4%. For a breweries that do not make IPA’s this is one tasty Belgian inspired North East IPA.
From Steamworks Brewing in Burnaby BC in collaboration with Blasted Church Vineyards in Okanagan Falls comes their “Sanctuary” a Saison with Gewurztraminer Grape Must. The beer pours a cloudy yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of citrus, yeast, spices, Gewurztraminer Grape and wheat. The flavour is of lemony citrus, spices, wheat, yeast funk, mild Gewurztraminer Grape and pith. The alcohol content comes in at 7.5%. This is an absolutely delicious blend of both beer and wine. Make sure to rush out and buy your bottles before it sells out.

Now you can have both, with the release of “SANCTUARY”; the heavenly new collaboration beer from Steamworks Brewing Co. and Blasted Church Vineyards. Sanctuary is a bottle conditioned Saison featuring Gewürztraminer grape must and is a departure from the ordinary for both producers. The making of the beer has been a true labour of love for the brewers and vintners involved. The process started with Blasted Church pressing fresh Gewürztraminer grape must from their Okanagan Valley fall 2017 harvest. The must was then rushed to Steamworks brewery and added during fermentation within 24 hours. The beer was then bottle conditioned for over 2 months in a special facility kept at an optimal temperature. All of this effort has led to a truly unique and spectacular flavour profile. Subtle grape and fruit notes give way to an effervescent mouthfeel and dry finish with a floral yet mildly spicy saison character.
From Bomber Brewing in Vancouver in partnership with Cultch for Theatre Replacement’s East Van Panto: Snow White & the Seven Dwarves comes the “Snow White IPA”. The beer pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. The aroma consist of floral hops, wheat, yeast, coriander, grapefruit and some other citrusy notes. The flavour is of coriander, citrus rind, grapefruit, pith, orange, lemon, yeast, wheat, with some dankness and pretty big hit of hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 50. This is a really well crafted White IPA and a nice change up for what I have been finding on the market!

From Backcountry Brewing in Squamish comes their “Widowmaker IPA” a North East style IPA. The beer pours a murky orange with a white head. The aroma consist of tropical juicy fruits with sweetness and floral hops. The flavour is of tropical fruits, orange juice, pith, pine with a fairly low bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.7% with an IBU of 50. If you are like me and love the NE style IPA you will really enjoy this brew.
Commercial Description: Our signature IPA is made in the east coast style. This style of IPA is characterized by a light malt profile with a big pulpy body that is there to complement the intense juicy character coming from the hops. Despite the absolute truck load of hops used in this style of beer the bitterness is restrained and comes across more like that of a pale ale. In this beer, we kept the malt profile light but full and we threw in a ridiculous amount of Citra and Mosaic both in the kettle and in the dry hop to create this intense juice bomb. This beer is unfiltered and un-fined to leave as much flavor and mouthfeel behind in the finished beer as possible.
From Granville Island Brewing out of Vancouver comes their new “Japanese Biere De Garde” a new release in their 2017 Cellar Series. The beer pours an orange colour with a white head. The aroma consists of citrus, clove, Belgian yeast and floral hops. The flavour is of lemon, citrus rind, pith, clove, pepper, mild pickles, earth, Belgian yeast and a hint of bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 9.5% with an IBU of 54. Kevin Emms has come up with a really interesting beer here and I look forward to seeing what my second bottle does over time.
