Mixed Forecast mix pack – Moody Ales (West Coast Canning)

From Moody Ales in Port Moody in collaboration with West Coast Canning a mobile canning operation locally comes their “Mixed Forecast mix pack” containing the Shorts Weather ISA and the Still Raining Dark Lager.  This pack is just like the weather in Metro Vancouver in the spring, dark and stormy or almost summer like sometimes in the same day.

Still Raining Dark Lager

Still Raining Dark Lager pours a black colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of mild roasted malts, caramel malts some coffee and a sweet note.  The flavour is of roasted malts, burnt coffee, mild caramel, earth and some bitterness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 24.  Can’t beat a good dark lager on a cold day and I would say this is a good one to enjoy on those days.

Shorts Weather ISA

Shorts Weather India Session Ale pours a copper colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of fruity and floral hops with maybe a hint of malt.  The flavour is of resin, mild bitterness, citrus, melon with the slightest hint of malts.  The alcohol content comes in at 4.8% with an IBU of 47.  If you are looking for an IPA to session all day then you would do well to drink this one for sure.  Low alcohol and full flavour will make for a good session.

Finger Guns Simcoe IPA – Twin Sails Brewing

From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “Finger Guns Simcoe IPA”.  The beer pours a hazy orange with a white head.  The aroma consists of  tropical fruit, citrus, grain, floral hops and herbal.  The flavour is of tropical fruit, citrus, herbal hops, grain, dankness and some low bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 7.2%.  If you like a good juice bomb and Simcoe hops then you need to try this.

Commercial Description:  100% Simcoe IPA.  Finger Guns is the next adaptation of our award winner Day Blink pale ale. We hit this beer with a huge dry hop of Simcoe which is instantly noticeable on the aroma. Lots of dankness and peach aromas until front with a soft juiciness in the finish. This beer is definitely one of our favourites in the single hop series and we’re excited to add it to the list!

You Gonna Eat That?- Twin Sails Brewing

From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “You Gonna Eat That?” a Black Forest Cake stout.  The beer pours a deep brown colour with a brown head.  The aroma consists of chocolate, mild roast, cherry and some sweetness.  The flavour is of cherries, chocolate, mild roast, earth, creamy with a mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.2%.  I personally really like the pastry stout and this one was defiantly enjoyable.

Huge Citrus Hazy Pale – Moody Ales

From Moody Ales out of Port Moody comes their “Huge Citrus Hazy Pale”.  The beer pours a hazy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, tropical fruit, melon and some sweetness in the finish.  The flavour is of melon, citrus, tropical, grapefruit, orange peel, some mild biscuit, hops bitterness and resin.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.1% with an IBU of 35.  This is a pretty cool release from Moody Ales and I hope they keep up the Hazy releases.

Commercial Description: Inspired by the hazy beers that all you kids are going crazy for these days, our brewer Sho started working on this recipe over a year ago. He had never tasted a North East Pale but decided to brew something similar. After some experimentation he landed on using typical North West hops and leaving out the oats and lactose sugar commonly used in that style. Those decisions leave us with a very juicy, well balanced beer with a lighter body than it’s North East cousins. Huge Citrus gets a massive addition of Cascade and Mosaic late in the brew, and is then dry-hopped with copious amounts of Cascade and Mosaic hops while the yeast is still active, leaving a Huge Citrus aroma and flavour – notes of tropical fruit, stone fruit, orange, grapefruit & pomelo. We used Sacc Trois yeast to ferment this beer to really increase the juicyness, hazyness and to add a bit of funk. This medium to light bodied beer is very well balanced, juicy, not sweet and VERY crushable.

Belgian Golden Strong – Moody Ales

From Moody Ales out of Port Moody comes their “Belgian Golden Strong”.  The beer pours a orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of bubblegum, banana, fruity notes and a sweetness in the finish.  The flavour is of bubblegum, banana, caramel, candi sugar, mild bitterness, spices and Belgian yeast. The alcohol content comes in at 8.5% with an IBU of 28.  This is a tasty Belgian style beer and a worthy addition to the Moody Ales small batch series.

Commercial Description:  The light body and soft, sweet malt character blend with the fruity aromas for a delicious and dangerous easy drinking beer.  Highly attenuated Belgian ale with fruity esters and low spicy alcohol and hop notes.
