Threesome Ale – Red Arrow Brewing

From Duncan BC’s Red Arrow Brewing comes their “Threesome Ale” a beer combining Hemp, hibiscus and honey. The beer pours a reddish colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of honey, hibiscus, herbal notes and a sweetness. The flavour is of herbal from hops or hemp, hibiscus tea, honey some mild bitterness and a mild sweetness in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 5.3%. Maybe not amazing but it was an enjoyable mix of flavours to be sure. I wouldn’t hesitate to try it again for sure.

This year’s Best of Show Flagship IPA is even more exciting as Julia Hanlon of Steamworks becomes the first female Head Brewer in BC to win this award!  A huge congratulations is in order for this!

Once the awards finished everyone went back to enjoying the beer that was on hand.  This was once again an amazing event with amazing beer being poured as well as great people be it craft beer fans or brewery staff.  Every year this event gets bigger and better!  Here is to another year of sticking it to the flavourless garbage that macro breweries make.

Once again like last year I helped set the festival up between 10:30am and 3pm.  It makes the festival even more fun when you are able to get involved in any part of the event.

Idle Hands Oaked Orange Ale – Red Arrow Brewing

From Duncan BC’s Red Arrow Brewing comes their “Idle Hands Oaked Orange Ale”.  The beer pours a brown colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of orange, oak, orange rind and some vanilla.  The flavour of orange, more citrus, oak, earth, toffee and vanilla.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.66%.  I am not really not a fan of orange flavour in beer but I am always excited to get new beers from hard to get breweries in Vancouver.  This beer was not really my thing but I am sure that there will be lots of people that quite enjoy this.

Commercial Description:  This belly warming brew clocks in at 6.66% and will help ease the chill of those winter nights. A malty ale brewed with candied orange peel and oak, this beer has a warm embrace followed with flavours of orange blossom and vanilla bean.
