The explosion of craft beer has not slowed one bit in BC! The lastest brewery to open is White Rock Beach Beer Company and is located in White Rock BC near the beach and the Rock that gave the area its name. I was down in White Rock for the grand opening and picked up a growler of their “White Rock West Beach Fruit”. The beer pours a copper colour with an off white colour. The aroma consists of malts, citrus and floral hops. The flavour is of sweet citrus, malts, caramel and some mild hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 36. This is a nice refreshing Pale Ale that will pair well with the hot summer weather on the way. Its low on bitterness but it is full of flavour.
From Cannery Brewing Company out of Penticton BC comes the “Apricot Wheat Ale”. This Summer seasonal brew pours a cloudy golden yellow with a white head. The aroma is of apricots up front with wheat, yeast and honey. The flavour consists of yeast, wheat, apricots and a touch of honey. The alcohol content comes in at 5%. This is a very refreshing summer seasonal with just the right balance of fruit to wheat. This is something that will taste amazing during a summer heatwave!
Commercial Description: This deliciously crisp beer is perfect for a hot summer day. The delicate taste of apricots gives a splash of sweetness to the crisp, clean wheat ale and results in a refreshingly pure flavour sensation.
From Seattle Washington’s Elysian Brewing Company comes their new seasonal “Superfuzz Blood Orange Pale” drank at the source in Seattle. The Pale Ale pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. The aroma consists of sweet oranges and some spices and maybe a hint of hops. The flavour is of orange peel, orange as well as some other citrus and some mild hops bitterness. The alcohol content of this brew is 5.4% and the IBU comes in at 45. This is a super refreshing pale ale and I hope the bottles make their way up to BC!

From Phillips Brewing in Victoria BC comes the “Evergreen Ale”. As the name states this beer uses spruce tips in the brewing process that were hand picked by the crew at Phillips. The beer pours a golden colour with a white head. The aroma of this beer is of spruce (woody, piney) with citrus and malty notes. The beers flavor consists of citrus, malts and a good hint of spruce woodiness. This is an interesting flavor for a beer and very refreshing! This is an ale but it drinks more like a lager as it is light in flavor and very refreshing. The beer sits at 5.5% alcohol and 100% awesomeness!
From Vancouver BC’s Kinda Craft Brewery Granville Island Brewing comes the “English Bay Pale Ale”. This brew pours a light golden colour with a minimal white head that does not last long. The beer does not have a strong scent but smells lightly of malts and overall sweetness. The beer has a very light flavor as well that hints at malts and very light hops with a crisp and sweet finish. This beer has an alcohol content of 5.0%. This is not a fantastic beer but it is a nice light flavored beer if you are just looking to enjoy a couple of beer on a hot patio. You can not go wrong really with a GIB mixed pack that includes this beer.
