From Mt. Begbie Brewing Company in Revelstoke BC comes their “Illa Swilla Wit”. This review is part of my lost notes that were recently found from my Summer trip to the Kootenays. The beer pours a cloudy golden colour with a white head. The aroma consists of wheat, citrus, orange peal and yeast. The flavour was of wheat, coriander, citrus, orange peel and some big yeast notes to finish it off. The alcohol content comes in at a sessionable 4.5%. I would happily swill this beer all summer.
Commercial Description: This unfiltered Belgian Wit beer is a fantastic ‘patio’ beer. It is refreshingly fruity with background hints of coriander and chamomile. The light creamy mouthfeel and crisp, tart finish are thirst quenching and perfect for a hot summer day.
Food pairing as per brewery: Wit beers are the most universal beers for food pairing. They are equally paired with lighter foods such as seafood and a salad to richer foods such as burgers and steaks.
From Mt. Begbie Brewing Company in Revelstoke BC comes their “Bob’s Your Dunkel” a Winter seasonal. The beer pours a deep cloudy copper colour with a light brown head. The aroma is of dark fruit, wheat, earth, malts, yeast and alcohol. The flavour is of dark fruit, chocolate, wheat, yeast, banana, earthy, mild bitterness and some alcohol at the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 8%. I do not run to the Dunkel style to often but I will be back to this one before long!

From Mt. Begbie Brewing Company in Revelstoke BC comes their “Cold Smoke (Smoked Porter)” their latest and very limited release. The beer pours a deep amber colour (odd for a porter) with a tan head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, sweetness, cherry and a mild smoke. The flavour is of cherry, roasted malts, mild smoke, fruits, burnt coffee, toffee and a mild bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 20. It may not have looked super Porter like but it sure tasted great. The smoke added some nice dimension without being strong.

Hop into this Beechwood smoked, rich malty brown porter – the only friend you need on a powder day! 6.5%alc/vol, 20 IBU best served at 8c with roasted or BBQ food, soft cheeses and dark chocolate!

The aroma consists of bready malts, sweet honey and a fruity finish. The flavour is of honey, fruits like citrus and melons, caramel and bready malts and a grassy hop finish. The alcohol comes in at 4.7%. I had forgotten how good this cream ale was as it is not a style I often gravitate to. But its 85/100 on beeradvocate.com says it all.
Commercial Description: Mt. Begbie Brewing’s original signature beer, brewed first in 1996. Begbie Cream Ale is a fruity ale with a subtle honey flavour. A delicious, golden ale, delicately fruity, with a subtle honey flavour that finishes with a crisp hop edge.
Food pairing as per brewery: Perfect with pasta dishes and pizza.
From Mt. Begbie Brewing Company in Revelstoke BC comes their “Nasty Habit India Pale Ale”. The beer pours a copper colour with a foamy white head. The aroma consists of floral hops, pine, citrus, and malts. The flavour is of caramel, citrus, some pine and mild hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 6%. This is really more of an English IPA but it is full of flavour and I really enjoy drinking it.
Commercial Description: A generously hopped IPA, balanced by a diabolical blend of rich specialty malts and pure mountain water. A wicked ale that leaves you lusting for more.
Food pairing as per brewery: Great with strong, spicy foods and curries.
