The Fraser – Steel & Oak Brewing (Four Winds Brewing)

From Steel & Oak Brewing in New Westminster in collaboration with Delta’s Four Winds Brewing across the river comes “The Fraser” a pale ale fermented with Saccharomyces Trois.  The beer pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of light tropical fruit, yeasty, mild funk and some floral hops.  The flavour is of mango, stone fruit, tropical fruit, citrus rind, yeast, mild funk with a dry not sweet finish.  There is very little bitterness in this brew.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.2% with an IBU of 24.  This beer is not going to punch you in the face with flavour but it is an excellently executed collaboration brew from two great breweries.

Commercial Description:  Fermented with Saccharomyces Trois yeast this Pale Ale was brewed with Amchoor (Green Mango spice) and hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca, as well as some fresh Cashmere for good measure. The Fraser is fruity, tropical, and funk. Not as funky as the people who brewed it but still pretty funky.

Weeping Reaper Blood Orange Helles Bock (2017 Edition) – Dead Frog Brewery

From Aldergove’s Dead Frog Brewery comes their “Weeping Reaper Blood Orange Helles Bock” a flavoured lager. The beer pours a copper colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of orange, citrus rind, toffee and floral hops.  The flavour is of earth, citrus rind, orange, toffee, mild bitterness and some grain.  The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 26.  Once again this year the flavour of this beer has changed up a bit.  I quite enjoyed this edition of the beer.

Commercial Description:  A HAUNTING GOLDEN LAGER WITH A SPLASH OF CITRUS, A SWEET CARESS OF FRUIT HOP FLAVOUR AND AROMA, AND A BRISK DRY FINISH.

Beach Week Double IPA –  Twin Sails Brewing

From Twin Sails Brewing in Port Moody comes their “Beach Week Double IPA”.  The beer pours a perfect NE Style IPA murky orange with a white head. The aroma consists of tropical fruit, orange and floral hops with an overall juice finish. The flavour is of tropical fruit, pineapple, mango, fruit candies, some citrus rind and a good bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 8.2%. This was anouther awesome release from Twin Sails.

Commercial Description:  Hopped with mostly El Dorado hops with a small amount of Amarillo and Mosaic playing a supporting role, this beer is a straight tropicana juice bomb. If a pineapple, a mango and a beer had a baby, this is the hop chowdery spawn they would create. Two massive dry hops give this beer a huge hop forward aroma and flavour with big notes of pineapple, mango and citrus.

Summertime Coconut Hopfenweisse – Tin Whistle Brewing

From Penticton BC’s Tin Whistle Brewing comes their “Summertime Coconut Hopfenweisse”.  The beer pours a cloudy orange with a white head.  The aroma consists of coconut, wheat, tropical fruit, citrus, banana and some sweetness.  The flavour is of tropical fruit, citrus, coconut, banana, wheat, bitterness, rind and pith.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.5% with an IBU of 20.  This summer release reminds me of a cocktail almost and I feel that it will be really good for the hot summer months in the Okanagan or anywhere in BC.

Commercial Description:  This delight has a foundation of the classic Weizen in all its wheat glory but is partnered with tropical, bright, hoppy flavours – courtesy of Citra and Mozaic hops.  Coconut and banana flavours are the finishing touch.

Subaquatic Domicile IPA – Hearthstone Brewery

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their “Subaquatic Domicile IPA”.  The latest IPA from Hearthstone pours an orange colour with a white head that leaves some lacing on the glass.  The aroma consists of pineapple, tropical fruit, sweetness and maybe a hint of malts.  The flavour is of and maybe a hint of earth.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an unspecified IBU.  This beer is a nice blend of North East IPA and North West IPA.  It still has the bitterness of the west coast but still has the juicy side of the hops.  I recommend finding some of this for yourself.

Commercial Description:  This Pineapple infused New England Style IPA is hazy, thick, creamy and magical.  Tropical fruit notes from Equanot, Idaho 7 & El Dorado hops are amplified by a healthy dose of Pineapple.  Join the haze craze and get it in ya!
