Riptide Rye IPA – Britannia Brewing Company


From Britannia Brewing Company in the Richmond with a tasting room in Steveston Village comes their “Riptide Rye IPA”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of floral hops, tropical fruit, orange and rye spice.  The flavour is of mild resin, herbal hops, tropical fruit, good citrus hit with some melon and mild bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 58.  While I would not go as far as to call this a North East IPA it is a good Rye IPA.

Commercial Description:  Brewed in the North East style with British yeast, Amarillo hops and flaked rye.  Apricots and nectarine meet citrus/mandarin orange with undertones of melon, creating juicy flavours with soft spicy tones of Rye.  Follow the tide and enjoy the flavour and aromas of this fresh IPA.

Ryegar Rye IPA – Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks


From Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks in Richmond comes their “Ryegar Rye IPA”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of citrus, rye malts, mild spice and a floral hops.  The flavour is of rye malt, rye spice, citrus, pineapple, earth and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.8% with an IBU of 68.  I am a huge fan of the Rye IPA style and this one is a great version of it.  I hope that this beer becomes one of their mainstay beers.

Commercial Description:  Ryegar Rye IPA:  A ligth malt body with a kick of spiceiness from rye, and a citric / floral explosion of hops!  Featuring Mosaic, Colombus, Cascade, Nugget, Centennial and Citra hops.

From Britannia Brewing Company in Steveston Village in Richmond BC comes their “Rye IPA”.  The beer pours a copper colour with a slightly off white head.  The aroma consists of rye malts, citrus and floral hops.  The flavour is of Rye, earth, citrus, citrus rind, resin and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.3% with an IBU of 60.  I fully enjoyed this Rye IPA from the new brewery on the block in BC.  I look forward to trying more.

Raiden Black Rye IPA – Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks


From Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks in Richmond comes their new “Raiden Black Rye IPA”.  The beer pours a deep chestnut brown with a light brown head.  The aroma consists of rye, roasted malts, citrus and bitterness.  The flavour is of rye, roasted malts, caramel, earth, citrus, and bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.4% with an IBU of 75.  This beer has a great mix of dark malts, rye and bitterness to make it a very interesting brew that is well worth a pickup!

Commercial Description:  “Raiden” Black Rye IPA Dry Hopped with Citrua.  Ella, Amarillo and Galaxy.  Pungent citrus and black current aromas from West Coast hops and slight pepperiness from rye is balanced with a roasty, yet smooth mouthfeel.

Rye IPA – Doan’s Craft Brewing Company


From the newest brewery in East Vancouver Doan’s Craft Brewing Company comes their “Rye IPA”.  The beer pours a golden colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of rye malts, earth and lots of piney hops.  The flavour is of rye malts, citrus, pine, earth and good hit of bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6% with an IBU of 60.  This is a nice clean refreshing take on a Rye IPA and it is very drinkable.  I would love to have many of this beer in the future.
