From Four Winds Brewing in Delta comes their “Saison Brett 2014″ a beer that was bottled on September 25, 2014 and consumed on August 28, 2017.  The beer pours a very cloudy orange colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of brett funk, tropical fruit, yeast and a bit of sweetness.  The flavour is of tropical fruit, brett funk, earth, some astringency, yeast, earth and bitterness in the finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 28.  While the cork wanted to shoot off of the bottle like a rocket this beer was tasting really good still.  Just be very careful pouring a 2014 vintage.

Commercial Description:  Aged in Okanagan red wine barrels, our Brett Saison is invigorated by wild yeast strain Brettanomyces, inviting hues of straw and earth.

Commercial Description:  Brewed in June 2016 in collaboration with the folks from Modern Times Beer in San Diego, this is a complex, dry and refreshing beer. Fermented with a Iquique multiculture, flavours of pineapple, Lemon and Lychee dominate this bottle-conditioned beer.

For the Launch of this beer Strange Fellows Brewing held a launch party in collaboration with Beerthirst the distributor for Modern Times Beer in Canada.   For the launch the brewery was serving glasses of the collaboration beer with a 4 oz pour of one of two Modern Times beers.  I was lucky enough to get a sample of the Looking Backwards from Modern Times usually a tasting room only beer in California.  It was a super tart beer and very tasty!  There was also a Modern Times Beer on tap also in their Fruitlands (Blood Orange & Hibiscus) a sour Gose.

Fuck Art This Is Architecture – To Øl

I apologies for the language but this is the name of the beer!

Limited Edition “Fuck Art This Is…. Series”

From the Gypsy brewery To Øl out of Denmark comes their “Fuck Art This Is Architecture” a Saison brett brewed at De Proefbrouwerij a brewery located in Belgium.  This Saison pours an orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of mild fruits, gooseberry and some floral hops.  The flavour is of lemongrass, wheat, gooseberry, yest, tea, pepper, Brett, citrus and hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5%.  This is a very tasty sasion although it is a bit understated compared to many saisons.  The name pulled me in and the beer held my attention!  It takes a brave brewer to name their beer this and it shows that they are willing to do their own thing and not care what others think.

Commercial Description:  Fuck Art – This is Architecture is a Table beer or Belgian Pale Ale. It is a massively hopped 5% Pale Ale fermented with brettanomyces, that gives a fat funky ending to this quaffable beer.
