From Four Winds Brewing in Delta comes their “Saison Brett 2014″ a beer that was bottled on September 25, 2014 and consumed on August 28, 2017. The beer pours a very cloudy orange colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of brett funk, tropical fruit, yeast and a bit of sweetness. The flavour is of tropical fruit, brett funk, earth, some astringency, yeast, earth and bitterness in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 28. While the cork wanted to shoot off of the bottle like a rocket this beer was tasting really good still. Just be very careful pouring a 2014 vintage.

The beer pours a straw yellow colour with a white head. The aroma consists of mango, pineapple and citrus with grainy malts and grassy hops. The flavour is of mango, pineapple, citrus, citrus rind, stone fruits, grain, mild sour notes, some hops and a brett finish. The alcohol content comes in at 6.5% with an IBU of 25. This is a wonderful beer made by two very good breweries! I hope this beer pops up again in the future.
Commercial Description: Brewed in June 2016 in collaboration with the folks from Modern Times Beer in San Diego, this is a complex, dry and refreshing beer. Fermented with a Iquique multiculture, flavours of pineapple, Lemon and Lychee dominate this bottle-conditioned beer.
For the Launch of this beer Strange Fellows Brewing held a launch party in collaboration with Beerthirst the distributor for Modern Times Beer in Canada. For the launch the brewery was serving glasses of the collaboration beer with a 4 oz pour of one of two Modern Times beers. I was lucky enough to get a sample of the Looking Backwards from Modern Times usually a tasting room only beer in California. It was a super tart beer and very tasty! There was also a Modern Times Beer on tap also in their Fruitlands (Blood Orange & Hibiscus) a sour Gose.
From Four Winds Brewing in Delta BC comes their “Saison Brett”. The Saison Brett is a saison barrel aged in red wine barrels for 10 months and infected with the wild yeast Brettanomyces and lacto-pediococcus. The beer pours a cloudy bright orange with a big white head. The aroma consists of bready malts, fruity, pepper, spices, and some mild funk coming from the Brettanomyces. The flavour is of bready malts, yeast, citrus, citrus rind, orange, .mild red wine, pepper, spices, oak and a great funk coming from the Brett. The alchol content comes in at 7% with an IBU of 28. This batch of the Saison Brett is just as amazing as the original one released and possibly better. Four Winds Brewing has hit it out of the park with this release and it is to bad that it can not be a full time beer and only a seasonal beer. But then at 10 months in barrels it takes some time to make this beauty.
Commercial Description: Aged in Okanagan red wine barrels, our Saison Brett is invigorated by wild yeast strain Brettanomyces, inviting hues of straw and earth.
I apologies for the language but this is the name of the beer!
Limited Edition “Fuck Art This Is…. Series”
From the Gypsy brewery To Øl out of Denmark comes their “Fuck Art This Is Architecture” a Saison brett brewed at De Proefbrouwerij a brewery located in Belgium. This Saison pours an orange colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of mild fruits, gooseberry and some floral hops. The flavour is of lemongrass, wheat, gooseberry, yest, tea, pepper, Brett, citrus and hops bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5%. This is a very tasty sasion although it is a bit understated compared to many saisons. The name pulled me in and the beer held my attention! It takes a brave brewer to name their beer this and it shows that they are willing to do their own thing and not care what others think.
Commercial Description: Fuck Art – This is Architecture is a Table beer or Belgian Pale Ale. It is a massively hopped 5% Pale Ale fermented with brettanomyces, that gives a fat funky ending to this quaffable beer.
