Dark Cherry Sour Saison – Kettle River Brewing Co

From Kettle River Brewing in Kelowna comes their “Dark Cherry Sour Saison”.  This beer comes from the lot BR4.  The beer pours a very cloudy reddish brown colour with a tan head.  The aroma consists of cherry, tartness, oak and some tannins.  The flavour is of oak, red wine tannins, cherry, malts, earth and some bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5.5%.  This is not a perfect Sour Saison but I would not hesitate to purchase more bottles if I was back in Kelowna.  It was definitely a tasty one.

Apricotopus (Apricot Sour Saison) – Parallel 49 Brewing

From East Vancouver’s Parallel 49 Brewing comes their latest beer in their “Apricotopus (Apricot Sour Saison)”.  The beer pours a yellow colour with a white head.  The aroma consists of mild tartness, yeast, wheat and apricots.  The flavour is of tartness, mild apricot, yeast, wheat and some bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 6.3% with an IBU of 6.  The beer does not hit on all the notes I had hoped for but it is still a good beer and well worth a try.

Commercial Description:   A perfect Summer Saison that was blended with real Apricots and Lactobacillus culture. Crisp, dry and effervescent with a hint of apricot sweetness and a hit of tartness.

Winter Cask Festival 2013 – Central City Brewing

On January 26th 2013 Central City Brewing held their annual Winter Cask Festival.

IMG-20130220-00366

There was more than 30 casks at the event for our tasting pleasure!  Casks came mostly from British Columbia but also included casks from Washington and Oregon.  The price was around 30 dollars like always and it included 3 samples and a free 4 ounce branded glass.  More tasting tokens were a dollar each and got you a full glass of beer.  Most of the beer styles revolved around winter drinking aimed at warming you up.  Like always the crowd was very fun and very friendly willing to chat and talk beer with anyone and everyone that wanted to talk.  For this tasting I only sampled 12 casks as I was just getting over a really nasty cold/virus.
