Threesome Ale – Red Arrow Brewing

From Duncan BC’s Red Arrow Brewing comes their “Threesome Ale” a beer combining Hemp, hibiscus and honey. The beer pours a reddish colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of honey, hibiscus, herbal notes and a sweetness. The flavour is of herbal from hops or hemp, hibiscus tea, honey some mild bitterness and a mild sweetness in the finish. The alcohol content comes in at 5.3%. Maybe not amazing but it was an enjoyable mix of flavours to be sure. I wouldn’t hesitate to try it again for sure.

Calypso Pale Ale (Single Hop Series #2) – Persephone Brewing Company

Persephone Brewing out of Gibsons BC has started up a single hop series recently.  The second beer in this series is the “Calypso Pale Ale” a series where the beer recipe will only be altered at the hops level.  The beer pours an amber colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of earth, mild fruit and citrus.  The flavour is of earth, tea, citrus, pear, lemon, hops bitterness and a malty finish.  The alcohol content comes in at 5%.  After trying the Galaxy Pale Ale it is amazing at just how different this beer is seeing it is a very similar recipe with just the hops changed.  Once again this was a great beer that showcases what the Calypso hops can produce.

Fuck Art This Is Architecture – To Øl

I apologies for the language but this is the name of the beer!

Limited Edition “Fuck Art This Is…. Series”

From the Gypsy brewery To Øl out of Denmark comes their “Fuck Art This Is Architecture” a Saison brett brewed at De Proefbrouwerij a brewery located in Belgium.  This Saison pours an orange colour with an off white head.  The aroma consists of mild fruits, gooseberry and some floral hops.  The flavour is of lemongrass, wheat, gooseberry, yest, tea, pepper, Brett, citrus and hops bitterness.  The alcohol content comes in at 5%.  This is a very tasty sasion although it is a bit understated compared to many saisons.  The name pulled me in and the beer held my attention!  It takes a brave brewer to name their beer this and it shows that they are willing to do their own thing and not care what others think.

Commercial Description:  Fuck Art – This is Architecture is a Table beer or Belgian Pale Ale. It is a massively hopped 5% Pale Ale fermented with brettanomyces, that gives a fat funky ending to this quaffable beer.

Spicy Mandarin Heffeweizen (casked) – Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub

From Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub in Victoria BC comes the “casked Spicy Mandarin Heffeweizen”.  This casked beer was tasted at the Summer Cask Festival 2012 at Central City Brewing in Surrey BC.  The beer poured a cloudy yellow colour with a white head.  The beer has a sweet mandarin and wheat smell.  The flavor of the beer was of sweet mandarin oranges and wheat with a light spice.  There was Silk Road Tea out of Victoria used in the brewing of this beer.  This was a great tasting beer.
