From Persephone Brewing Company out of Gibsons BC comes their “Double IPA” a very limited release brew. The beer pours a very clear golden colour with a white head and some lacing. The aroma consists of floral hops, citrus and malts. There is a ton of hops bitterness to the taste with pine, citrus, tropical fruits, caramel and malts to finish it off. This beer is very hopy but also very balanced. The alcohol content comes in at 9%. I have heard this brew being compared to some of the best IPA’s in the world. I would not quite put it there but it is up in the top tier to be sure.
From MacTarnahan’s Brewing out of Portland Oregon comes the “Spine Tingler” Belgian style tripel. This beer pours a light mildly hazy golden colour with a white head. The beer smells of yeast, bubble gum and some tropical fruits. The beer tastes of yeast, apple, tropical fruits, with some tangy/sour hints with some light bitterness. The beer sits at a high 8.5% alcohol and an IBU of 23. This is a very nice tasting beer and was rated a 90/100 on Beer Advocate.
Food Pairing according to O’hare’s Beer Club notes are as follows: Sharp Cheese, Pickled Herring.
